Game Rules

We start by passing out all of the cards at random.

Each person must sit in a table of four or move to a table with four making it have five.

We start each round by getting each person to read their card to the table mates. Give them 2 minutes to rat each other out. If someone is ratted out they are taken out of the game (anyone can rat out anyone with the Jew card). People who expose people with the Jew card get 3 pieces of candy.

At the end of each 2 minute round, each of us will go to a random table to pick anyone and expose whether they are a Jew or not. If they are then they are taken out of the game and each other person in that table is deducted a piece of candy if they have any. At the end of the game, we give people at each table group 4 pieces of candy for each Jew at the table, if there are no Jews in a table they get 3 each instead.

Adele appears on stage to perform for Nazis. The author refers to Adele being pale as death, highlighting the consequences of being in concentration camp. Adele stopped thinking about how she looked and could only worry about Omara that has become a mother figure to her. This was a big step towards her new self. She finally gets rid of her old nickname, showing that there is nothing delicate or golden in her anymore. And that she strongly bonds with other girls.

Adele was sick and tired of living like this and playing for such a horrible people. She almost gives up but Omara stepped in and asked Adele to not give up for her to keep on going and never lose herself. So that becomes Adele’s motivation to give at least one more performance where she can cry her soul out. My theory is that Adele understands that the outcome no longer matters, she would never leave Auschwitz.

What do you think that Sera did after the events of the story? Her plot was kind of secondary to Adele, but we don't know nearly as much about her in comparison. At the very least she did seem to resolve her arc at the end. That and the fact that it was mostly about Adele.

Forbidden love

Forbidden love in this story gives our character Adele the strength to push through adversity and survive in the concentration camps. The end of the novel shows that while her love is still looked down upon by her parents, she doesn't care and is happy regardless.
