Building Emotional Connection.

For me, the most exciting bit of customer service is user experience and hearing from others like them. Pilot a Bloom Journal Wall- a dedicated space to showcase bits of of mood boards from past projects paired with short, handwritten testimonials from real customers.

To deepen this sense of customer satisfaction, I would also introduce a Mood Match quiz, a short and beautifully designed experience that helps us understand their preferences, mood, and values.

It could guide how we tailor our recommendations, but more importantly, make the customer feel truly seen and understood!

In a meaningful customer service experience it is important to me when I am both acknowledged and welcomed into a space upon arrival. It makes me feel much more comfortable when I feel like the employees are kind and approachable.

In terms of the space itself, when I am walking into a store where I would be taking a good amount of time to make a decision, comfortable seating, good lighting, and a nice fragrance to the space (candles, flowers, air-fresheners, etc.) are all very important in creating a pleasant atmosphere.

I feel the best as a customer when I am greeted in a polite, open, and informative way. Something important to me is when sales representatives are responsive and receptive to what I am looking for. For me, that looks like explaining things without over-relying on jargon or veering into a condescending tone.

I also appreciate well-curated displays with personal touches, especially with regard to furniture or fashion. Elements that draw my attention aesthetically always work (I particularly like elements like detailed geometric patterns and bold color) ,but this can also be for a personal reason, like noticing a book on a shelf I recognize.

For me, a meaningful customer experience is heavily supported by the senses and the atmosphere of the initial space to which a customer enters.

Natural lighting is always a must, but in its absence, soft warm lighting should be applied. This gives a welcoming but also calming atmosphere, taking the customer off the high traffic and energy of the street. Which can often be found in Andersonville during peak hours. In addition, smells and sounds work especially well to feeling welcome. Easy listening music (soft jazz as already mentioned) or any soft toned music at low levels allows awkward silences and lingering liminal noise, often present in buildings, to be disregarded.

I like to be welcomed into a space with a sense of warmth and intentionality—nothing too scripted, just a genuine acknowledgment that I’ve arrived. A smile, a relaxed tone, and even something as simple as eye contact can go a long way. In luxury shopping experiences, it's often the quiet, considered details that stand out: the weight and texture of the shopping bag, a glass of water or champagne offered while browsing, soft lighting that feels flattering and calming, and associates who seem to anticipate needs without hovering. These touches don’t just signal quality—they create a sense of being cared for and valued.

In my opinion, a meaningful, elevated welcome starts with a warm and intentional greeting. The type of greeting that says you actually care how their day is going and are there to help them through their customer experience without being too pushy or clingy. I personally enjoy having a bit of space to wonder a store without an associate walking around with me, but knowing they are there to help if I so please. The ideal atmosphere would include soft lighting (or lots of natural light) within a well curated space that transports me somewhere inspiring and aspirational. I'd love to see expertly styled vignettes around the store paired with floral arrangements and a subtle scent wafting about. Its all about creating an experience that allows you to escape for a little while and lingers in your mind well after you leave.
