The themes in the Polaroid and in Taken are both the same, in both stories someone was abducted and held against their will. I think a theme for them both could be, just because you feel trapped, doesn't mean there isn't a way out.

Even though both stories have the same theme or almost the same story line there are many differences.

In 'Taken' we got to know more about the protagonist and the positions he was in and his interactions with other characters, (His daughter, ex wife, friends, who he works for etc), unlike in 'The Polaroid', we only saw three main-ish characters, but only two we knew little to no info on.

Three similarities in the passages.

In both passages, children were abducted, but sexual predators.

it was shown that they were both used in some form of trafficking and exploitation. They both show a moral of "you can never be too careful".

Climax. In 'Taken' we got to see what lead up to the protagonist daughter getting taken, and how she was taken, but in 'The Polaroid' we only found out about the abduction until more reading into the story and seeing from Emma's view.

Time frame. In the passage of 'The Polaroid', we read that the two characters had been abducted two years ago, and were still being withheld till that day, unlike in 'Taken' we had saw the moment the protagonist daughter parted and heard the moment she was taken.

In 'Taken' the protagonist s daughter was taken because she went on a trip in Paris, but lied about her location. In 'The Polaroid' the two protagonists were kidnapped while riding bikes, and they didn't know each other unlike in 'Taken' both girls knew each other.

Escaping. When it came to the end of the passages in 'The Polaroid' both characters escaped by the help of themselves while in 'Taken' the girl escaped through the help of her father, who went through obstacles of people and danger only to be able to save one of the characters.

They escaped in the end.
In both stories, they were given their ending, free of the trafficking that held them, though in 'Taken' even though the girl was free from being captured she didn't get to escape with her friend like they did in 'The Polaroid" so there is a minor difference, but still a similarities
