Before this trip, I thought we were going to learn about something different; about how to shape Singapore into a sustainable metropolis other than that of anything else. I felt like it was going to be fun-filled while going about through the difficulties and solutions towards making Singapore sustainable and ideas and perspectives of the people’s vision of Singapore; like what Mr Phey said that he wanted his generation to later exist in the future (as an example. Sorry Mr Phey if I used this as an example!)

i found the outdoor garden and the food digester the most interesting in the learning journey. It made me curious as I wondered if it could be used on a larger scale and allow Singapore to be more independent and without having a lack of resources. I would apply my knowledge if there was a program about taking care of our surroundings 🤑🤑

In my opinion ,the eco garden on the rooftop was the most fun and engaging activity for the learning journey. We got the opportunity to taste different produce they had grown organically and learnt some of the factors that affect the plants growth.

During the trip, I learnt about the many interesting things of how food waste is used in OTH and possibly around Singapore. For example, food waste is converted into organic fertiliser through filtration of excess solids and liquids of food waste. Then, it undergoes a process where microbes and enzymes start to eat away the remaining features of the solid to then clean and make organic fertiliser made for plants. I also learnt about how plastic was used in Singapore and I was devastated to hear the facts about plastic usage. So, we decided to use plastic more responsibly and carefully in order to stop the ongoing contribution towards climate change and pollution of the ocean, land and air.

I thought and kept thinking about it… why are people not taking care of this planet? It’s Mother Nature we are talking about here. Earth gave us everything we could ever need, but we humans are so greedy that we have never spared a thought about Mother Nature. Ever since young, I noticed changes in the society. Pollution was everywhere in the global society. People kept on using plastic, paper and other kinds of materials, but they kept asking for more. And more came, but with a price. Our Amazon Rainforest is dying due to your selfish acts towards the environment, and it is the world’s largest rainforest in the world, producing our fruits and vegetables, which are exported to Singapore for just to eat, and yet again, you guys are wasting food. How much more are you guys going to waste if you all are at the edge of near extinction of both yourself and Earth? Mother Nature did everything for us and we are going to return back that favour to her. So, let us all do a part to contribute to zero food waste and free-of-plastic society, no matter how big or small we are! Let us do this for Mother Nature and our future generations to come, and it starts NOW!
