A system of writing was important to record information. Not all the writing systems were the same. They were established in different places at different times. These writing systems varied greatly in appearance, structure, and purpose. Writing was used in temples. Priests wrote prayers and precise rituals. Writing systems were also displayed on public monuments. Rulers would advertise their power to the people this way. Masses of ancient writings have been found on clay tablets, vases, stone statues, and also on the walls of buildings by archaeologists.

Cities are an important feature of civilization because it creates a place for people to live. It helps form communities for people to help each other and become more advanced. Cities can be a start to an even bigger civilization and lead to more people and better more advanced technology.

Government is an important feature of civilization because it establishes law. To have a civilization you need to have a set of rules. In a civilization without rules the people would not be civilized and it would not truly be a civilization because people would not know how to act

The arts and architecture of ancient civilizations was a way that expressed the talents, beliefs, and the values of the people who created them. The city landscape was often dominated by temples and palaces. Some buildings may have been ordered to remind people of the strength and power of their government and religion. The buildings were decorated with wall paintings, statues of gods, goddesses, or rulers, and other pieces of design work.

Additionally, jobs help to build up social classes in society, because wealth I different amongst people who have jobs. Lastly, if there are different jobs to go around then society grows new features. And then a society that is strong develops.

System of writing is very important to keep track of history and to keep count of things to help make life easier. People can also draw pictures to represent things that have happened or that tell a story. It also let’s later generations know what life was like during past times and what tools or crops people had used for their everyday needs.

If people can’t communicate then there is no way to pay, plan, teach, or worship. If there is no communication then there is no learning how to survive build or know what is going on in the city

The lives of city dwellers differed from those of nomads.

Urban people developed so many new crafts that a single

individual could not master all the skills needed to make tools, weapons, or other goods. For the first time, individuals began to specialize in certain jobs. Some became artisans, or skilled craftspeople, and made pottery or finely carved or woven goods. Among the crafts developed in cities, metalworking was particularly important. People learned to make tools and weapons, first out of copper and later out of bronze, a more durable mixture of copper and tin. Cities had other specialists, too. Bricklayers built city walls. Soldiers defended these walls. Merchants sold goods in the marketplace. Singers, dancers, and storytellers entertained on public occasions.
