I have completed a media progression/completion form in order to show that I have completed the previous pieces of work on the course. I have also completed a SWOT analysis, I self assessed my skills and gained feedback from people I have worked with in the past. I set smart targets for myself in the afternoon using feedback I had been given from teachers in the past as context. 

The SWOT analysis helped me analyse my skills by pointing out my strengths and weaknesses when completing a project. I was able to divide these into two categories. I also discussed the opportunities and threats of this unit. I have self assessed the skills I have. This helped me determine what I am good with as well what needed to be improved. For example, I am good with replicating industry standards however I need to improve my focus and detail for appropriate for an intended audience.When setting my smart targets I was able to go through my feedback and pick what needed to be improved and maintained. For example I needed to improve my research and to do this I will elaborate on choices I have made. I need to sustain my problem solving skills by keeping a log of what has gone wrong and how to fix it.  

I feel my strengths include good problem solving. This is because I am able to find problems and quickly figure out a solution to these problems. I am able to create back up/contingency plans that can be used if necessary. Another strength of mine would be with planning certain aspects of the project.  This is because I am good with delegating roles and completing a production schedule. This would help because it allows me to stay organised all the time. A weakness of mine would be  not knowing much about different processes in the field of media. I will fix this by thinking about different processes and noting them down. Another weakness would be that my practical skills could be improved. I will improve them by possibly booking out equipment or researching what to do with different pieces of equipment and how to use them appropriately.

I expected the feedback I was given from my peers. This is because in the first unit I was very unskilled with the equipment I was given. In the group who I was with in the first term a lot of criticism was directed my use of equipment. They however complimented my work ethic. My second group said I worked well however lacked motivation when it came to taking on additional work.  

The skills I have used included research and self assessment. I will need to complete more research because I will want to be able to get the most out of the brief. This was an ex media student who was enlisting people for roles in his project. I have created a mind map about how I have interpreted the brief. I have included images on this and have expanded on some of my ideas for FMP. I have also taken notes for a mood-board I will complete over the weekend. 

These activities have helped me to generate ideas by allowing me to read the brief and interpret it in a few different ways. I have come up with 4 possible ideas for my FMP. It has also helped me by allowing me to come up with an idea within the parameters that have been set. I have wrote these on my mood-board so I can abide by them with the other ideas I have come up with. They have allowed me to analyse my skills by helping me pick certain aspects. I have been able to pick the areas that I am good at so I will try to challenge myself by picking something I am not as good at. 

A few boundaries and parameters have been set with the FMP CAST brief. These are to work independently, submit all material, ensure everything is original, refrain from any objectionable content and get everyone to sign the appropriate consent forms. A problem I see arising is that my video may push into objectionable territory. I will avoid/solve these by showing the script to other people and asking about the appropriateness. Another problem I see arising is the video may not be suitable for the target audience. I will try to fix this by screening it to people who fit the groups brought up on the brief. 

I have been able to reflect and take in advice I have been given by the teacher. This is because when asking for feedback I have implemented it into my work. We then split into groups and filmed six videos about pieces of equipment and have edited each of these.

The activities helped me improve my practical skills by allowing me to learn how most equipment works. This is because we were given workshops and then had to make videos conveying the information. They also allowed us to film videos in our own style about the equipment. This is because we were working in teams of creative people and were each allowed to inject our own personal style. 

The one problem we faced during production is that we constantly forgot pieces of equipment. This is because despite there being a schedule we were not kept to it so we had to pick random pieces of equipment and do the videos. In the end we were able to get all videos completed.

We learnt how to use more pieces of equipment today. This was mainly the jib and stedicam. I was unaware of how to use this equipment so today was useful as I can refer back to the videos we filmed. This will be helpful as it means I can use more equipment as I have a guide on how to use it. This helps me to achieve my target of learning more about the camera because I am aware of how to use more equipment that will make my camera-use more effective.
 
I am going to use my skills with the new equipment in later sessions. This is because when I enter the production stage of FMP I can use more pieces of equipment to get better shots.

I have learnt how to analyse the brief and produce an appropriate pitch. I have been able to understand the assignment I have been given. These activities have helped me improve my presentation skills by allowing me to pick the information I wanted to talk about and also giving me a taste of what is to come if i continue to get into the field of media. I have been able to improve my academic skills in both my project proposal and my pitch. I have been able to improve it in my project proposal by staying in word counts and condensing my ideas down. I have also been able to improve my maths by delegating times in order to do certain tasks.

A problem I faced is that I was unable to elongate my speech. To fix this I was asked questions by the teacher and elaborated on my answers.

A technique I learned to do better is to present information. I was able to state my intentions for the FMP. This means I have met the target I have set myself.

This involved thinking of questions to ask on a visit to Anglia Ruskin University next Tuesday. We then had to complete a short film based around a vague concept. This allowed us to create our own plot. Our concept was "Out of Time". We decided to create a plot about two workers trying to complete documents quickly. We were asked to include a shot involving the jib, which we happily obliged to do. We then edited this footage. 

The activities helped me improve my practical skills by allowing me to gain experience with using the equipment. The equipment we used today was cameras, audio equipment and a jib. We used these to create a short film. For example we used a jib to film the opening shot and used audio equipment to record all of the sound required. 

The main problem I experienced today was not being able to hear audio through the computer. When attempting to turn up computer based audio I was unable to do so without an administrator. I have completed an edit of footage so I still have a working product.

A new practical technique I improved was that I improved my use of equipment. This was by observing and partaking when people were using equipment. I also got better at being in front of the camera as I played a somewhat prominent role in the acting department.

A skill I have used today and will employ into the work next session was my confidence in front of the camera. I have completed some job role analysis's also. I have looked at the job roles of producers, directors and camera operators. I have learnt how to attain a higher grade in this by watching our teacher explain to us how much referencing and research is necessary to attain a higher grade. 

These activities helped me to improve my research skills by allowing to have more of a grasp on how much research will need to be completed in order to get the best grade. We will need to reference and get information from around 5 different sources. I will go back over my documentation and do this. 

A small problem I faced was completing a job role analysis on an industry professional and job role I was not really going to do during the project. I have fixed this error by completing more industry professionals on the fields I am concentrating on in this project. 

I have improved my research skills by picking information from lots of different sources. This has allowed me to create a better profile on the professionals I am going to analyse. I have managed to delegate my time effectively and prioritise my workload. This is because I have been able to plan how much work I am realistically going to complete during the day and how much I will need to complete outside of college hours.

These forms of primary research being one on one interviews, Vox pops and focus groups. The one on one interviews and focus groups were completed on college grounds. The Vox pops were completed with members of the general public. We have learnt how effective this research can be as well as improved our confidence when talking to the general public for the purpose of primary research. We will use the information gathered to further tailor our FMP towards the target audience.

The activities completed today will help us to improve our primary research skills by alerting to the importance of all 3 various forms of it. It has also helped us be more confident when talking to the members of the general public. This is because it was necessary when completing Vox pops. It has also given us better presenting skills and a further understanding of our target audience. 

A small problem that occurred today was that people were not able to complete a Vox pop. This impeded the progress during the production as it took a while for someone to agree. We however overcame this obstacle and got a short Vox pop with a member of the general public. 

Today we have improved our skills when completing Vox pops, one on one interviews and focus groups. This is because we had to complete them under time constraints. They also helped to improve our presenting skills due to the quantity of them we had to complete. This means I have met my Showbie target as I have improved my confidence when completing the various forms of primary research. 

I have learnt a decent amount from the diary log workshop. I have learnt a few more techniques that could be used to make my diary logs better. This includes a deeper analysis and links back to my target that has been set.

I have completed a few activities that improve my planning skills. This primarily today has been for the production schedule. This has allowed me to plan far ahead about what needs to be completed and when it needs to be completed by. I have also completed a contingency plan that has allowed me to plan what to do if anything goes wrong. I have been able to have this on record so I can look at it if something is to go wrong during the production period.

The one problem I have run into today is that I have not yet completed the research portion of my FMP. To combat this issue I will complete the research work outside of college hours in order to get it done as soon as possible. 

A pre-production technique I have learned/improved is to delegate time appropriately. I have done this by completing a production schedule that goes from the beginning to the end of the production cycle. This meets my personal target which involved delegating time effectively. I have also completed most of the work that i set out for myself to do today. 

In the next session I will continue delegating time effectively. I have completed a few activities that have helped me reach the end of the pre-production work. I have delegated certain tasks other the past few days to me and my team mate. We have used our study days effectively to complete the pre-production documentation. We have completed all paperwork which is visible on  the production schedule and the brief.This has been signed off by both Leila and Dave. We have also booked out the appropriate equipment for our production.

My target was to take initiative and concentrate to get the rest of the pre-production work done. I have met my target as I have completed the rest of the work for the pre-production stage of the FMP. I have been in contact with my other team members in order to get them to email me any work that was yet to go on the Padlet wall. With this collaboration we have managed to get the rest of the work done and therefore fulfilling my target for the day.

In the next few sessions I will work to keep my concentration good to get work done quickly and to the best standard. I will also attempt to retain my good contact skills with the team as this may help me build confidence with talking to potential clients.

This has involved practice for our video. This has involved taking photos, recording audio and recording videos. These have been for the purpose of preparing for filming which will take place this Thursday and Monday.

The activities today have helped me and my group prepare for our production phase of the project. This is because the actor is familiar with the dialogue she will say as well as the inflection she must say it in. I have also become familiar with the way in which I will frame the shot and record the audio.

My target today was to improve my technical skills when completing tests. I feel like I have achieved this as I have been filming, capturing sound and taking photos for the project all day. I have been working using the production skills I will be mostly responsible for when completing the FMP.

In the next session I will be completing rushes. This is because I am going to film footage for the video on Thursday. I will work on perfecting my technical skills.

This footage was filmed yesterday in elsenham (the home town of my group member Lucy) to make up the "past" footage of our video. Most of the footage filmed is useable. These activities have prepared me for the post production stage as I have found the footage that is useable and I have made comments on how to go about using it. This will include speeding it up, slowing it down or cutting it into other footage.

Throughout today and yesterday I have completed my target. This target was to essentially improve my teamwork skills. I feel I have achieved this as I have worked in a team to complete a portion of the filming as well as setting up for the next section of filming. I also feel as though I have improved my technical skills. This is because I have worked with the different pieces of equipment in order to compose effective shots. This equipment includes camera, a tripod and a lapel microphone. I have also improved my focusing when it came to filming certain shots.

In the next session I will work to improve my planning skills. This will mean I have an entire days worth of work planned out and ready to do rather than completing a small amount and realising I have more to do.

I have also completed rushes for the video element of our project. In the next session I will start to edit the video together. I have also created two folders containing all the usable footage and audio. I have also created a folder separating the unusable files. I have also uploaded the files to google drive so my other group member can access it if necessary.

This activity has prepared me for the post production stage of the FMP as they have allowed me to separate the useable elements from the unusable the elements. I will be able to quickly take from the useable files and not have to search through files to find the most appropriate file to use. Completing the rushes will help as I have named each file as Shot[Insert Number Here], Take [Insert Number Here]. The rushes sheet contain the shot and take numbers so I will have a written record of the usable elements. I have also written comments for what I need to do to each piece of footage and audio to make it appropriate to use in the video.

I have completed my target today. My target was to plan the day in detail in order to not waste any time. I have done this a because in the morning before arriving at college I had contacted my team member telling them what we are going to that day. Today I had organised to film at the college (involving getting out equipment), complete rehearsals before hand (to get her familiar with the lines she had to read, rushes and photography. We have succeeded in getting all of this completed before the end of the day.

In the next session I will work towards improving my editing skills. I could research some premiere pro and after effects techniques online before starting tomorrow.

I have put together all the usable footage with the correct audio as well as added a small effect that shows a message based chat appearing down the side of the screen. I have decided to slightly postpone the completion of this first edit to allow some research to be gathered to be used as statistics in the video. This means we will not need to hassle anyone about using their statistics. Over the weekend I will create another survey which will concern the content and certain production aspects of the video. This will allow me to create a final edit on Monday which will then in turn allow me to create a presentable video for the screening. I will also need to create a short presentation to do before the video. 

This activity has prepared me for the screening/feedback stage of production by bringing me closer to having a completed video that is suitable for a screening. It has also allowed me to view it as an outsider also. This is because after completing each shot/scene of the video I have gone back through the video to make sure the flow of it works and it doesn't look messy or disjointed. 

I feel as though I have completed my target for today. I have improved my editing skills which in turn have improved my technical skills when creating a video.I have also had to research a small aspect of the video which is the cropping of an effect that I have placed on the video which depicts a conversation.

I have also created a short survey which will allow me to find out what people like about the video as well as what should and could be improved about the video. 

This has prepared for the feedback, screening and evaluation part of the project by first allowing me to know how people will respond. This is good for two reasons. First is because responses from the people I share it to will be a good indicator of some feedback I may receive at the screening and the second is because I can improve from what people have said. I will also use the feedback to fix small technical errors that people may point out in the video. It will prepare me for the screening by allowing me to see what people think beforehand so I can edit the video into what may be the most crowd pleasing. It may also allow me to iron out any technical issues that may plague the video. It will prepare me for the evaluation part of the project by giving me research that I can talk about in the evaluation. I can comment on how it has effected the progress of my project. 

I have completed my target today. This is by first completing the edit of my video. It is also because I have learnt how to have standalone text in my video. This is something I previously was not aware of how to do. 

In my next session I will continue to use the technical and research analysis skills in order to complete a final edit of my FMP video that will be appropriate for the audience that I am aiming for it to get to.

I have used feedback to change various aspects of the video and have had to fix certain elements as various footage had corrupted. I had previously backed up this video so all I had to do was go online and find the appropriate footage. I then held a short focus group in order to gain more feedback on the video which I will take into account for this and future projects. I have recorded this as I will need to refer back to it. I have also contributed to my groups presentation powerpoint. I will also help my group member with completing the powerpoint. I have also created a survey in order to gain more feedback on the final edit of my video. I will be able to reflect on this in my evaluation. 

This has prepared me for the screening and evaluation side of my project by allowing me to create a final edit that is suitable for screening purposes. I have taken advice I have been given by other people on board and have created a final edit that both me and my group member Lucy deem as being at the appropriate standard for the screening. The survey I have created and the focus group I have held will prepare me for the evaluation side of the project by giving me some feedback I can mention in my evaluation. I will use it as proof of getting more than one source of feedback for my FMP video. 

I have met my target as I have created two ways of gathering research that I can analyse at a later date. I have created a survey as well as recording a focus group that I have held. All of the results of that have been backed up so I do not lose them. I will collect the results of the survey at a later date. 

In the next session I will aim to continue to effectively use my research analysis skills. I have also started my evaluation for my FMP which I will continue on my study days. I have learnt how to summarise the various things I have done and write them up in order to keep my evaluation with the useful information and not have too much unneeded details in the evaluation. 

I have not run into any problems today. This is because I have remained conscious when viewing files as well as saving them. I have also only worked towards using the information I need. 

I am going to meet my deadlines by completing work over my study days and spending time making sure I only include the essential information in my evaluation. This will cut down the time it takes to complete my evaluation by a lot as i will only be focusing on work that needs to be there. I have also timetabled on my production schedule to complete the evaluation earlier so I can go back through it and make improvements where necessary. 

I have met my target today as I am able to concisely explain what I have done during the project and have gone into what has inspired me in the mind map and mood board stage of the project. I will go into doing this as I go further in my evaluation.

I plan to continue to write up my evaluation in later sessions. I have recorded the screening so I can look at it when searching for feedback. I have then continued with my evaluation in order to get it completed for Monday (the due date for the end of the project). 

I have not run into any problems today as I have only completed the screening in which I did not run into any issues. When completing my evaluation I also did not run into any issues/problems. 

I have met my target for today as I feel like I have presented effectively and to the best standard. I feel as though I have kept my cool during the screening. All of the comments from the screening have been recorded and I will reference them in my evaluation. 

This activity will prepare me for the evaluation stage as I have got some feedback for my project that I can talk about in my evaluation and collate my feedback. I can talk about how these can guide me to improve my project or future ones to the best they can be.

When completing the evaluation today I talked about strengths and areas of improvement that I have had during this project. I have also related these to professional examples such as various films, industry professionals and standard industry techniques. I have also wrote a conclusion for my FMP detailing the various tasks of the project and what my strengths and weaknesses were during it. I had already detailed the various tasks within these larger tasks in previous paragraphs.

I have not run into any problems today. This is because I have stuck to the brief and only written what I thought would be most appropriate and most relevant to the task at hand. I have also proof-read the document and removed any grammatical errors that are present in the document. 

I have met my target for today as I have completed my evaluation and have referenced everything that had to be in my evaluation. I have used the referencing/bibliography tool that is given to you on Microsoft Word. I have also uploaded all documentation required onto showbie.
