Building lots of houses in a new build estate on every block of land in an area can have negative effects such as destroying wildlife's natural habbitats or being an eyesore and often rushed buildings with small faults and they all look the same and have no character, however the positive side to this is it gives more houses to society and gets homeless people of the streets and keeps familys safe and warm especially with the increasing populations, so in a way the aesthetics dont matter as much if it can help the less fortunate.

Structural efficency should come first as the safety of people should be the priority for those who live in the house. All houses should be structurally safe, meaning they don't have to look the best because its harder to build a really good looking house and be structurally efficient, that's why nicer looking houses may cost more as they ensure the safety of the person living there

Structural Efficiency:

Its a no-brainer really, i would rather live in a house that can last my whole life even if it looks disgusting and unappealing then live in a house that looks insanely amusing and tourist bringing but will only last less than a year if that, at least my health and safety would be prioritised with the right and secured structure. Although aesthetics can involve just more windows for natural light, it doesn't matter as if it isn't structurally sound, i wouldn't want to live in one or build one since i know someone's safety isn't guaranteed

joe

in some scenarios it could be acceptable e.g. tourist attraction as it is the aesthetics that is the point of the structure. the structure will help the economy by creating chances for food stalls etc close by. this is all due to its aesthetics not efficiency. on the other hand most structures should be efficiency focused as safety and productivity as that's the true purpose of it. as a whole i think efficiency should be prioritised.

I think that structural efficiency should be prioritised over aesthetics. This is because the safety of the people who have access to this structure, or those within a close radius, could be subject to danger, if the building isn't structurally sound. Whilst aesthetics matter, companies will be taken to court or have their company disbanded for unsafe practice, and negligence. However, I understand why someone may choose aesthetics first, because looks bring a lot of wealth to the economy. For example, Big Ben attracts millions of tourists, as it is often referred to when talking about London. Attractions and famous buildings have a big part to play in how well London does financially.

you should not prioritise aesthetics designs over structural efficiency as buildings should be safe as they can priorities the buildings aesthetics after the building is built therefore the building is both safe and good looking. therefore prioritising the safety as the safety should come first so the building doesn't collapse and kill/ injures people

In Most cases, putting Structural Efficiency first is the best choice, as Dwellings need to have safety and Functionality prioritised over looks, so that it is habitable. Ensuring that the building is structurally stable, so that it won't be prone to damage from harsh weather, or rotting from age and decay. It is also better for the buildings to last longer, rather than look better, as it leads to being able to fully utilise the land we have, and end up producing less brownfields from buildings that end up becoming rubble, due to poor structural integrity. However, Putting Aesthetics first would be good for Structures like Land marks, An example being the Angel of the north, As it is not a Habitable structure, its functionality is limited mostly to its design. However, buildings like the Sydney Opera House, need to take in both the Integrity of the structure, and the aesthetic appeal it has, but focuses on the looks, to assist in influencing the public into increasing the numbers of the trades that worked to create it, as to inspire greater structures in the future.

Both should be incorporated into a design. You could argue that o e is more important than the other; however, here are my ideas: I believe that safety should become before design, this means building a building to be structurally efficient, for example how a building stands up against wind or fire. You could argue that the aesthetics also plays an important roll in the design of a building, this is to fit into an environment, additionally building everywhere (leaving little to no green space can affect the environment- destroying ecosystems etc). Would you rather sleep in a comfy plain bed, or a Victorian uncomfortable bed, but having the best of both worlds would benefit you more.

I believe that structural efficiency is more important than aesthetics because yes the building may look nicer so more people could buy the property but the building is more likely to collapse because you are not thinking about the type of material what will best suit the building or the forces what could act on the building also the building would more likely to need repairs if it only focuses on aesthetics

I believe that aesthetics are really important because people will not buy the property if it does not look nice from the outside and on the inside but then again the structural efficiency i think is more important and what should be prioritized because people would much rather buy a house that will last longer and be safer for the people living inside. With the wildfires in america for example they have prioritized aesthetics which will give a nicer look to the town or city but since the fires have started they can not stop it as they have not prioritized the structure so therefore the cost of trying to repair will be expensive and if they prioritized the structure then that extra money will not need to be spent and could possible end up having a cost that is far more expensive that what could have been if the structure was the priority over the aesthetics.

I think that prioritising structural design over aesthetic is justifiable because of the housing crisis in the UK. As the supply of housing is not keeping up with the demand, it is causing a rise in homelessness as it is becoming too difficult to own a house. As homelessness increases, it would effect the rest of the UK as it will increase crime rate in areas and therefore decreasing house prices in certain areas. Therefore i think that structural is more important in our society today as they need to be built quickly too meet the demand.

Whist aesthetics is important as to ensure the satisfaction of the client, the most crucial factor whilst designing the building is the structural efficiency and safety ensuring the building is designed in a way that it is safe to use and will be safe for a long period of time resisting natural elements and wear. prioritising the safety of the clients is the leading factor and ensuring that over time the build will not fault which if so could cause the injuries and casualties of these inside due to the unsafe features and negligence to safety. in doing so it could put companies at risk of having a lawsuit or going out of business due to their actions putting clients and civilians at risk
