Aphiwe demonstrates strong visual awareness when sorting and matching objects. He is still learning to recognise basic numbers, letters and shapes but is confident in puzzle building. Support Aphiwe to form letters more accurately and to identify shapes and numbers in everyday objects. He is very clever, but also emotionally quite young. With his newfound confidence, he can achieve anything.

Auditory Development:

Aphiwe is beginning to show lovely progress in his auditory development. Although he can still be a little restless during story time, he is learning to listen more attentively and follow instructions with increasing success. Aphiwe enjoys engaging in conversations, asking questions and sharing his thoughts using clear sentences of five to six words. He is able to recognise and interpret a variety of sounds and noises, showing a growing awareness and understanding of his auditory environment. It is wonderful to see his confidence and communication skills continue to develop so positively.

At the beginning of the year, Aphiwe found it challenging to regulate his emotions and engage with those around him. He often appeared withdrawn or frustrated and found it difficult to interact with his peers or educators. Over time, however, Aphiwe has shown remarkable growth in his social and emotional development. He has become a confident, joyful, and expressive little boy who now enjoys playing both individually and as part of a group. Aphiwe approaches activities such as painting and copying with enthusiasm and focus, and he takes great pride in his achievements. It is heartwarming to see him respond so positively to praise and encouragement, showing a growing sense of self-awareness and self-assurance. His progress has been truly inspiring, and he should be very proud of how far he has come.

Aphiwe can draw simple figures and is beginning to include features such as eyes, mouth, and hair with support. He shows increasing awareness of how his body moves. He is learning to move confidently within shared spaces, showing awareness of objects and people around him. He is beginning to use time and directional words appropriately in conversation. He performs action songs with enjoyment and growing physical control. Aphiwe moves carefully around obstacles and is learning to use space effectively during play. He is developing an understanding of time-related concepts such as seasons and days. Singing and moving to action songs helps strengthen his coordination and memory. Well done, my boy.

Gross Motor Development

Aphiwe is developing very good gross motor skills and enjoys being active. He runs and jumps with confidence and coordination and is becoming more accurate when throwing or kicking a ball. His balance and control continue to improve through climbing and hopping activities. He shows determination and enthusiasm in every movement challenge, always giving his best. Keep it up, Aphiwe.

Fine Motor Skills

Aphiwe loves being creative and, with support, is developing control in cutting. His pencil grip is improving, and he enjoys drawing pictures of shapes. He completes threading and pegboard tasks independently. He enjoys painting and colouring in bright, bold colours, and his fine motor control supports confident puzzle completion. Puzzles are his favourite. I have seen so much growth in Aphiwe's development this year and know that it will continue to improve with support and encouragement. You can do it, my boy.

His phonics knowledge is emerging, and he can trace over dotted lines, shapes, numbers and letters with growing control. At times, his writing movements go in different directions, and his letter formation is still unsteady, but he is showing determination and effort. With continued practice and encouragement, Aphiwe will gradually build the fine motor strength and coordination needed for writing.
