Akbar worked his way through the ranks at his previous construction job, until the age of 40. This progression allowed him to save up and fulfill his adult dream of owning a restaurant.
Fischer believes that "each person has an optimal level of cognitive performance will show itself in familiar and well -trained content domains" (Sigelman & Rider, 2018, p. 227). This proves to be true because Akbar is very skilled in cooking. Akbar remembers cooking with his mom as a child and carried those memories with him always. He has continuously practiced his cooking throughout his life. This practice has caused him to have amazing cognitive skills in his restaurant despite being 45 and having arthritis. This also can be related to Piaget and the belief that adults can excel in a task that is familiar and fail in something unfamiliar because they "lack relevant expertise"(Sigelman & Rider, 2018, p. 226).

In an article named Personality Predicts Health Declines Through Stressful Life Events During Late Mid-Life, an experiment was conducted on how studies about physical health are affected by personality. Personality is what determines a person’s stress over a lifetime. The study showed how factors of personality, neuroticism, impulsivity, agreeableness, and stressful life events correlate to what causes stress upon middle-aged adults. For Akbar, the stress from working as a construction worker and at his restaurant affects how his personality and behavior on a regular basis. This also includes how he interacts with his family and his peers.

(Iacovino, Bogdan, and Oltmanns, 2016, p. 536-546; Sigelman & Rider, 2018, p. 226-227).

His joints began to ache starting in his late thirties. It was easy for him to cope with the pain due to his high pain tolerance. Although he put it off and blamed it on his construction job, Akbar was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when he was 43 years old, a few years after his restaurant opened. Although he has pain, he also has prescribed medicine and high pain tolerance. Thanks to these he is able to function as an average 45 years old should.

Akbar is able to hear, smell, and taste as a middle-aged adult. However, he is diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) at 51. This is the number one cause of blindness in adults. As the years progressed, Akbar's vision slowly decreased and at the age of 70, he lost complete eyesight.

In his late fifties, the joint pain became less tolerable and it began to hurt as he walked. This along with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) made it difficult for him to run his restaurant, so he relied heavily on both his wife and children.

(Sigelman & Rider, 2018, p. 190-192).
