Bubonic Plague
Caused by a bacteria called Yersinia Pestis, usually spread by fleas. It picks up the bacteria from biting infected animals, rats, mice, and then biting people.

Symptoms may include fever, chills, headaches, weak, sick after 1-6 days and then develop buboes, which are very painful and swollen lymph nodes under arms, neck, or even the groin. Without treatment, it may spread to other parts of the body.

The way people can easily get this disease in the present day are by touching a living or dead animal that might have been infected by infectious animals, working with animals regularly, spending a lot of time working, hiking, camping, or hunting, and spending time with someone who has the plague.

Source: https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/plague-faq#2

Salmonella

a) Identify a bacteria disease?

Salmonellosis, better known as Salmonella is a widely known bacterial diseases affecting the intestinal tract. The salmonella bacteria stays in human and animal intestines, and are passed through the feces.

Although salmonella may lead to more serious diseases, people infected with salmonella normally have any symptoms. They may undergo diarrahea, abdominal cramps and chills in the range of eight to 72 hours (3 days).

In most cases, people with the salmonella infection may recover in just a few days without any serious or specific treatment. However, the salmonella infection may become a more serious matter when going beyond the intestines area.

Tourists often acquires the salmonella infection when travelling to third world countries and countries with lack of proper sanitation, hygiene and clean facilitation.

b) What are some ways humans contract the disease?

The salmonella infection often infects people who ate foods that have been contaminated by the salmonella bacteria: often found in feces.

· Consumption of raw meats and eggs

o During the butchering and cleaning process, animal feces acquire a high chance to be transmitted to the raw meat without much attention and care.

o Eggshells can be very helpful in the prevention of transmitted bacterial diseases like Salmonella. However, chickens infected with salmonella produce eggs that already contains the salmonella bacteria which may be difficult to control.

· Contaminated dairy foods: unpasteurized milk

· Fruits and vegetables handled non-hygienically

o Fresh produce like fruits and vegetables may be contaminated with salmonella during the process of washing and being imported.

o When in the kitchen, fruits and vegetables acquire a very likely chance to be contaminated with salmonella from juices of the raw meat. This is why the use of different designated color cutting boards and cutleries are extremely important to avoid cross contamination.

o Make sure to wash and sanitize all food contact surfaces like the workstation, plate, bowls, chopping boards, etc.

o Vegetable such as potatoes and carrots have a high risk of having some traces of soil which contains a lot of bacteria so it is crucial to wash them thoroughly before using it.

· Seafood

o When the seafood has not been cleaned well and thoroughly, the risks of salmonella increases due to the possible contamination from the contaminated water.

· Non-hygienic habits

o Personal Hygiene is one of the most integral action of keeping germs from our body out of the food that is going to be served and eaten by other people.

o Germs can spread easily throughout out hands and so it is best to clean not only your palms but also the other parts of our arm that might make contact to the food

o Pets, birds, reptiles – Some pets may carry the salmonella bacteria.

o Travelling abroad (internationally) – The salmonella bacteria is very common in developing countries especially with lack of proper sanitation.

c) What are the symptoms of the diseases?

The symptoms of salmonella may last for about 2-7 days.

· Diarrhea (may last to up to 10 days, takes months to return to regular bowel movement)

· Abdominal pain

· Cramps

· Fever

· Nausea

· Vomiting

· Chills

· Headache

· Blood in the stool

d) How can contracting this disease be avoided

e) What is the treatment for the disease (if any)?

There are multiple ways to avoid the contamination of the Salmonella diseases.

· Washing your hands

· Avoiding cross contamination.

· Avoid eating raw eggs

Endocarditis

How Humans Contract Endocarditis:

Humans often obtain endocarditis through the bloodstream via eating or drinking. Bacteria causing endocarditis can also enter into the human body through cuts on the skin or oral cavities. Often times the human body’s immune system will fight incoming germs before the germs can cause any massive damage; however, this process may sometimes fail because of a weak immune system in some people.

In the case of infective endocarditis, the germs travel through your bloodstream and into your heart, where they multiply and cause inflammation. Endocarditis can also be caused by fungi or other germs.

Not only does eating and drinking contract germs, which causes endocarditis, but the germs can also be contracted through gum diseases, cuts in an individual’s gums, through STDs and by using needles, which are contaminated with an immense amount of contamination and bacteria

Symptoms of Individuals who have contracted Endocarditis:

When an individual’s body contracts endocarditis, there are many symptoms, which are visible around and within the human body. As an example, some symptoms, which people with endocarditis will encounter are heart murmurs, unusual pale skin, consistent fevers or chills, constant sweating at night time, a lot of joint and muscle pain, decreased appetite, unintentional weight loss, and swollen feet, legs or abdomen. However, in some cases there are also some less likely or uncommon symptoms of endocarditis such as blood in an individual’s urine and an enlarged spleen, which may feel tender when touched. In addition, when an individual contracts endocarditis, their skin also shows signs of red or purple spots below the skin of fingers or below the skin of toes.

marlene

https://www.healthline.com/health/impetigo#what-is-impetigo

1. What is impetigo?

It is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection and is mostly contracted by young children/infants. The name ‘Impetigo,’ comes from the Latin word Impetere, which means ‘attack.’

2. What are some ways humans can contract the disease?

The disease is transmitted when touching someone else infected with the disease. This disease is caused by a bacterial infection called Staphylococcus aureus/Streptococcus pyogenes. 20%-50% of the general population carry these bacteria in their nose, which is why in most cases, the skin infection will start to form around their nose and lips. A smaller percentage of people carry the bacteria around their genitals and anus. Areas of the body such as the arms, legs, and the face are most likely affected by this skin infection. Impetigo often starts with minor cuts, rashes and even insect bites. When the infection is caught by broken skin, it is called secondary impetigo. When the infection occurs on healthy skin, it is called primary impetigo. It is most common for people who work/live near crowded conditions and for those who often do sports that involve physical contact.

3. Any symptoms?

There are multiple symptoms to impetigo. When you start to notice reddish spots around your nose/mouth, it is most likely to be the first sign of the most common type of impetigo. Then, the sores will begin to form into blisters, which will eventually ooze and burst and form a yellowish crust. At times, the sores can be very itchy and painful. After turning into a crust, the infection leaves red marks onto your skin which will eventually disappear without leaving a scar. In more severe cases, the infection can include a fever and swollen glands in the area of the contaminated skin.

4. How can contracting this disease be avoided?

The disease can easily be avoided in several different ways. Regular bathing and frequent hand washing can cut down on the skin bacteria. It is also important to remember to not share any personal items with someone who has been infected with Impetigo, for it is highly contagious. Often wash and clean clothes, bed linens, and towels to avoid getting contracted. These are all effective ways on how to avoid Impetigo.

5. What is the treatment for the disease?

The treatment for impetigo varies from how severe the infection is. When getting treated for impetigo, topical antibiotics are recommended. It is important to keep using the antibiotics for approximately 5-7 days. If the infection is more severe than usual, oral antibiotics should be used to treat the skin infection. It works at a more rapid speed than topical ones. Another way to treat impetigo is by bathing and soaking the sores three to four times a day, and make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after the bathing process. To fully/permanently remove the crusts or any reddish marks, it is recommended to use an antibiotic ointment. Then, cover the sore with a bandage. Lastly, it is important to remember to not scratch/itch the sores, for it can transfer the infection to other parts of your skin. You also need to take care of your personal hygiene, because if not, the infection will spread in a more rapid speed.

Endocarditis

How Humans Contract Endocarditis:

Humans often obtain endocarditis through the bloodstream by eating or drinking.

Endocarditis Symptoms:

How to Treat Endocarditis:

In some cases, for individuals who contracted endocarditis via bacteria, their disease will be treated through antibiotic therapy. The doctor who puts the individual with endocarditis will prescribe and advise you to consume antibiotics until the endocarditis infection and any form of inflammation are treated. Individuals who are prescribed antibiotics will most likely receive the needed antibiotics in a hospital for at least a week, until signs of improvement within the human body is present and visible. Furthermore, antibiotic therapy usually takes up to 6 weeks, thus meaning that when the individual leaves the hospital or is not needed to stay in the hospital anymore, antibiotic therapy will be continued until the required time is complete.

On the other hand, extensive endocarditis or damaged heart valves caused by endocarditis within the body may require surgery to fully help restore the body to its original state. The surgery will be used to remove any dead tissue, scar tissue, fluid build up, or debris from infected tissues caused by the endocarditis. In addition, the surgery may also be executed to help repair or remove damaged heart valve, and replace it with either artificial material or in some cases animal tissue.

How to Prevent Endocarditis:

Endocarditis can be easily prevented by sustaining good oral hygiene. Regular dental appointments with a dentist can drastically lower the risk of bacteria build up in your mouth and getting into your bloodstream. This reduces your risk of developing endocarditis from an oral infection or injury.

Avoiding body piercings, tattoos and IV drug use will help drastically prevent endocarditis because it helps an individual keep out any germs from entering the bloodstream.

Works Cited:
Endocarditis: Risk Factors, Symptoms, and Diagnosis.

The disease can be avoided by several different ways. It is important to remember to not scratch/itch the sores, for it can transfer the infection to other parts of your skin. You also need to take care of your personal hygiene, because if not, the infection will spread in a more rapid speed.

5.	What is the treatment for the disease?

Doctors will take samples from skin, blood, tissue or piss. Doctors will give patients antibiotics, however, this bacteria can adapt to its surrounding environment. Luckily, this bacteria mostly targets living things with the weakest immunity system.
