         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Definition: </strong><em>illegal traffic of liquor<br></em>—&gt; Alcoholic liquor made, sold or transported without registration or payment of taxes<em><br></em><br><strong>History: </strong></div><ul><li>The word stems from the Midwest</li><li>In the 1880s people started hiding liquor  flasks in their boots to trade with Indians</li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Reason: </strong></div><ul><li>January 1920: 18th amendment became law banning the manufacture, transportation, importation and sale in the U.S</li><li>This was known as prohibition </li><li>Caused a permanent change in the way the nation viewed authority, the court system, wealth and class<br><br>—&gt;  Prohibition started a national drinkingspree that percisted until in 1933 alcohol was legal again <br><br></li></ul><div><strong>famous/ involved people </strong></div><ul><li>mostly economized by rich people or immigrants <br>—&gt; George Remus: lived in Cincinnati and made 5 million dollars because of the bootlegging business </li></ul>]]></description>
