Culture has always been linked to the concept of language development in each country. In fact, anthropologists explain how culture covers a broad area of every human’s life. Thus, language is evidently a relevant part of it as it encompasses communication among the members of society (Britannica, n.d.). Its “correctness” in terms of usage, however, still depends on how a specific nation learns and uses the English language.

In the Philippines, English is typically not the official language of Filipinos. However, citizens are often regarded as one of the most fluent populations. The country is also among the biggest English-speaking countries around the globe, ranking 15th out of the 80 countries in the EF English Proficiency Index during the year 2017 (Mariñas, 2021). There are many acceptable reasons why most Filipinos acquire the English language even though it is not their mother tongue. This has primarily involved education and knowledge of western culture.

Most of its people can speak English at least a little bit. English has always been one of the Philippines' official languages, and more than 14 million Filipinos can say it. It is the language of business and law and is also the primary language used in schools. Additionally, the Philippines' ability to speak and write fluently in English has made it the world's top voice outsourcing destination, surpassing India in 2012. More foreign English learners are coming to the area due to the availability of inexpensive but high-quality English as a Second Language (ESL) programs in the area.

Tagalog is the more widely spoken of the two since it's the national language. In fact, English is much more excellent for Filipinos than a lesson or a curriculum in the class. Second only to Filipino as the official language is English, which is utilized in public and private education and business. The Philippines is ranked No. 18 among non-native English-speaking nations in the world, with an EF EPI score of 592 and a position of No. 2 out of 24 in Asia, as per EF's English Proficiency Index (2022).

During the first ten years of education, exposure towards the English language provides the idea that learners have learned to communicate well via language schooling. On the other hand, the foundation for their language comprehension is found in the regular use of the Filipino language in everyday conversational settings. Whenever it comes to oral presentations, reporting, and perhaps even informal conversation, many Filipino students are indeed hesitant to use the English language because of their lack of familiarity with the language. Students are restrained by one of life's most enriching experiences: interacting with others through conversation.

We Filipinos tend to have that confusion and baffling when in written communication. Some Filipinos are good at written communication in English, but some are poor in English but good at Tagalog, and vice versa. Well, you know, you can't tell. Most of it is that Filipinos have difficulty handling English, written, and oral communication.
