         <description><![CDATA[<div>Greek theatres deliberately made sure to perform their plays in the daylight, to take advantage of the sun, and could go on until the evening. They made sure that the placement of the theatre was ideal for natural light. Theatres in this period were in a open space.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;During the Italian Renaissance candles were lit. The candles were made up of animal fat and tallow. Sebastiano Serlio was an important part of lighting in this time period as he created colour filters within lighting by adding liquid into bottles. Each colour affected the lighting in different ways. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>While William Murdock was the one that produced gaslighting as a method, Frederick Albert Windsor, who was known as an entrepreneur, took out a patent meaning a license which enabled gas to be used for the specific use of using it in theatres. William allowed Coal gas to be used for illumination. The first theatre that used gaslighting was included in was the London Lyceum theatre. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thomas Eddison was the one that developed the principles of electric light in 1880, and this is how it electric lighting became a normal addition to theatre lighting for so many.&nbsp;The first theatre that installed electric lights into their space was the Savoy Theatre in London in 1881, and later in the year 1882, Boston's Bijjou theatres.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thomas Drummond, a british engineer invented the first spotlight which is also known as the limelight. By heating calcium carbonate with oxygen and hydrogen, this increased the intensity and also allowed the light to be more focused, in turn creating a spotlight. Covent London Garden was the first theatre to utilize this limelight in 1820.</div>]]></description>
