Russia became a Christian land because missionaries from the Byzantine Empire encouraged Orthodox Christianity in Kiev. After studying the religion, Queen Olga tried to get her subjects change to Christianity. However, her subjects refused and Kiev remained non-Christian. Olga's grandson, Vladimir, wanted to experiment with the religion. He sent out ten men and they came back, wanting to embrace Orthodox Christianity. Vladimir threw the statues of the old religion into the Dneiper River and forced everyone in Kiev to become Christian.

First, Russia became a Christian country because of the powerful Byzantine Empire, whose capital was Constantinople. Greek missionaries from Constantinople brought Christianity to Russia. They taught the Russians about Christianity. Among these Russians was Princess Olga, who was part of the second reason that Russia became a Christian country. She took control of the government after her husband was killed. Once she became the first woman ruler in Russia, she traveled to Constantinople, where she learned about Christianity. Olga encouraged her people to learn about Orthodox Christianity, but they did not change. Later, her grandson Prince Vladimir started ruling, and he forced the people to convert to Christianity. Because of these reasons, Russia became a Christian country.

Russia became a Christian country in two ways:

1. In Russia's south, there was an empire called "Byzantine Empire", which was the most powerful empire in the world. Greek missionaries from the capital of the city, Constantinople, during 900 came to other parts of Byzantine Empire and taught the early Russians about Christianity. This way, the Byzantine Empire became a Christian empire, in the Orthodox Christianity form in the empire.

2. Princess Olga traveled to Constantinople. When the emperor of the Byzantine Empire asked her to marry him, she rejected the offer, but instead asked to teach her about Orthodox Christianity. She was taught everything about Orthodox Christianity by a patriarch. After returning to Kiev, she encouraged her people to become Orthodox Christians. However, the people stayed with their old gods, and she did not force any of them to become Christians, even though she herself converted to Orthodox Christianity.
However, many years later, Vladimir, grandson of Princess Olga, converted to Christianity after he discovered it from the "ten good and true men" about Orthodox Christianity. Unlike Princess Olga, he forced his people to become Orthodox Christians. He threw old idols into the Dnieper River.

This is how Russia became an Orthodox Christian country in these two ways.
