Knowing that electron shells have different subshells inside them made me realise that chemistry is now more complex than what we have learned in the past two years and it will be even more complicated in the future ahead.<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp; 2. I’ve learned a lot of things this chapter, such as the atomic structure of atoms, their charges, relative mass, isotopes and the different extent of deflection each subatomic particle will experience. I’ve also learned that the electron configuration is more complicated than what we’ve learned in IGCSE and there are principal quantum shells, subshells (s, p, d, f) and atomic orbitals. I’ve also learned that there are trends across the period (smaller radius as it goes from left to right) and down the group (larger radius). And there are factors causing that (shielding effect, nuclear charge, distance of valence electrons from nucleus, attraction, etc), as well as the 4 factors that affects the ionisation energy of elements.&nbsp;</div><div>2. I probably need to revise more on writing down the electron configuration as there are elements following an exception rule (Such as Copper and Chromium) and revise more about the spin-pair repulsion because elements with spin pair repulsion have lower first ionization energy due to the first electron being easier to be removed.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

Furthermore, I learned how to describe the electronic configuration of atoms and ions, as well as writing the full and shorthand electronic configuration.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Reflection:<br>Within the topic of ionisation energy, I learned several things regarding the property. Ionisation energy is the energy needed to detach an electron from a mole of gaseous atom. Doing it consecutively is called successive ionisation energy. It is affected by nuclear charge, the distance between the shell and the nucleus, and the shielding effect. In regards to the prior topic, I have learned about the principal quantum shells, atomic orbitals, subshells. I also learned how the electrons interact with each other within the orbitals. I have also learned how to write the electronic configurations of the elements that we will be using(except for the lanthanides and actinides). </div>]]></description>
