The first piece of technology used in the classroom was a typewriter. "You didn't have any laptops or phones like today, You had to deal with the click clack of the keys being typed". The crazy thing I also learned about type writers being in the classroom were typing classes. I have taken a computer class but to hear a class specifically on typing is a bit wild to me.

The other piece of technology was a physical chalk board. "The erasers were fun to get off all of the chalk dust. What was not great was when you made the teacher angry and she'd run her fingernails across the chalkboard". It's strange to imagine the concept of a chalkboard since you only see them on TV so to hear someone say it was physically used is strange.

The next piece was a white board. "When your teacher had the smelly white board markers, it was great" We see the dramatic shift here from chalk to dry erase. In a short amount of time (25-30 years) we have already seen a dramatic change in what teachers are writing with

The other piece of technology was giant computers. "You had these computers that were the size of windows (no pun intended)" We finally have our first piece of modern technology. Even though the computers she used in school are ancient by today's standards, it's refreshing to hear that a computer has finally made its appearance in the classroom.

We are a few years apart but the technology differences between us are wild. The first one is still commonplace in most schools and one many are familiar with, the smart-board. He didn't give me much more to write than that but the smart-board is one of the most recognizable pieces of classroom technology but was an experience for him since he was probably one of the first to experience the actual magic of the smart-board.

The other piece of technology that was more common back when he was in elementary/middle school were tablets. We don't see or hear much about them being used in schools anymore since most schools have either moved on to laptops that can fold into tablets or utilize student cellphones as educational tools. Hearing that physical tablets were used in commonplace in the classroom only about a decade ago aged me a bit too.
