They have 4 offices; Cardigan, Milford Haven, Haverfordwest and Pembroke dock.

The course requires you to attend the Furtureworks setting 3 days a week and a work placement of your choice for the other 2 days. You receive a wage for attending and can gain a level 1 or 2 NVQ qualification which are linked to your work placement. These could include areas like Customer Service, Business Admin or Childcare.

You are in control of your learning at all times and the centres work with you to support you.

Once on your Futureworks journey there are a lot of other opportunities and events you can attend some of which are fully funded and are a great way to develop your social skills.

Pembrokeshire County Council believes that children of compulsory school age can benefit from experience gained in undertaking work, providing that this work is suitable and there are proper safeguards in place. The official date for leaving school is the last Friday in June in the school year in which the pupil is 16. Before this date children between the ages of 13 and 16 must have an employment permit from the Council if they wish to be employed.

The Council has a set of byelaws setting out the conditions under which children of compulsory school age may be employed. These legal provisions include requiring the employer to send to the Council notification of the child’s employment with certain details being required in that regard.  

The notification application form must be completed by a parent and the employer, and submitted to the Principal Education Welfare Officer within the Education Welfare Service for consideration.

The Council will only then issue an employment permit for the child, if it is satisfied that the proposed employment is lawful, the child’s health welfare and ability to take full advantage of his/her education would not be jeopardised, and the child is fit to undertake the work for which he/she is to be employed. The child may be employed only in accordance with the details shown on his/her employment permit.

Mae Cyngor Sir Penfro o'r farn y gall plant o oedran ysgol gorfodol elwa o brofiad a gafwyd wrth ymgymryd â gwaith, ar yr amod bod y gwaith hwn yn addas a bod mesurau diogelu priodol ar waith. Y dyddiad swyddogol ar gyfer gadael yr ysgol yw'r dydd Gwener olaf ym mis Mehefin yn y flwyddyn ysgol y mae'r disgybl yn 16 oed. Gellir cyflogi'r plentyn yn unol â'r manylion a ddangosir ar ei drwydded cyflogaeth yn unig.

Kerb Craft is a national scheme, funded by Welsh Government. It aims to teach Year One and/or Year Two pupil’s vital pedestrian skills, to aid the reduction of Child Pedestrian accidents. Training is carried out at the roadside by a member of the Road Safety Team.

There are a few things that should be taken into consideration when choosing the right tutor.

1. Always make sure they have a current and up to date enhanced DBS check. They should be willing for you to see their DBS certificate to prove this. DBS checks can only tell you information up to the time the check was done. It does not tell you about anything the person might have done after the check was made. Therefore, it is extremely important that you always interview any potential tutor and ask to see their career résumé. You should always ask for and check professional references from someone who knows the tutor now. If the tutor is currently, or has recently been employed in a school, ask for a reference from the headteacher, and if the tutor is also a qualified teacher, ask to see a copy of the tutor’s Education Workforce Council (EWC) certification.

   
   

2. Private tuition should never take place on a one to one basis without a second adult being present, who should remain on the premises the whole time. The space selected for study should be an appropriate one, and should never be a bedroom or a room where the second adult can not hear or see what is happening.

   
   

3. You may want to interview the tutor before hand, and research their credentials to ensure they are the best person for the role. You can also ask for a trial session to see how they interact with the young person.

   
   

4. When talking with the tutor you should ask them key questions. For example what is your teaching style? What resources will you be using? How will you monitor my child's progress?

   
   

5. Never be afraid to stop using the tutor and change to a different one.

The Primary Years group meets online once a month from 7–8pm, making it easy to join from home. Sessions are hosted by RSBC’s Family Support team, and you can expect a supportive environment, opportunities to ask questions, and time to connect with other families. What’s coming up for our Primary Years Connecting Families group…

• Emotional Wellbeing – 10^th Feb – Sign up here 
  Taking place during Children’s Mental Health Week 2026, this session will help parents and carers support their child’s emotional wellbeing, build resilience, and boost self-esteem. 

Running from September 2026 to March 2027, this project offers young people (suitable for ages roughly 7–16) the opportunity to develop their creative writing skills through the exciting and accessible form of verbatim storytelling — creating stories using the exact words spoken by real people. Learners will be supported to collect, craft, and share stories about the people and places that shape their own experience of Pembrokeshire.

What the Project Involves

Participatants will receive:

• Four days of workshops taking place at the Torch (two in the Autumn term, two in the Spring), delivered by a professional playwright, storyteller, or theatre‑maker. Sessions can be delivered in English or Welsh.

• Support for young people to create their own short verbatim plays based on interviews they carry out within their communities.

By the end of the project, homeschool participants will have:

• The opportunity for selected plays to be performed by Torch Youth Theatre.

• A published book featuring all completed plays from the project.

• A public exhibition of selected original interviews in the Torch Theatre Gallery.

All project costs are fully covered, ensuring the opportunity is accessible to all home‑educating families.

Why Take Part?

Cynefin Stories supports key aspects of the Curriculum for Wales, particularly the principle of Cynefin — encouraging young people to explore their identity, sense of belonging, and the unique cultures and histories of their communities.

It also responds to literacy challenges highlighted by the National Literacy Trust, including reduced motivation and enjoyment of writing among young people.

Through real‑world creative practice, participants will develop:

• Interview and communication skills.

• Confidence in writing for performance.

• Understanding of language, editing, and narrative structure.

• A deeper connection with their community and peers.
