A very important place that has a large number of species of plants, animals, insects, etc that only live there in the entire world! It helps animals evolve because it's a unique place, filled with lots of different areas (like mountains, swamps, forests, rainforests, caves, etc). It has unique animals, like the largest scorpion on Earth, and other important species, like the chameleon, live there. There are over 15 000 species of plants there, and new animals and insects are discovered very often!

There are over 15 types of lemurs on Madagascar, including the super rare golden crown lemur! This type is endangered. Some lemurs can leap about 30-40 feet. They eat fruit and leaves. There used to be a species of lemur called the giant lemur, which would grow to be the size of a gorilla. Lemurs aren't found anywhere else in the world!

They change colour, and some of their species are endangered. They eat flies with a super sticky tongue, and their eyes can look all around (called a panoramic view, or 180 degrees for each eye). They are slow moving, but they do eat very fast. When they change their colour they aren't aware of it, and their tongue is longer than their body. There are over 340 species of chameleons!
