The themes of love and death are intertwined in the novel "The Canterville Ghost." Beneath the surface comedy of role reversal, in which the American Otis family got frightens the ghost and not vice versa, lurks a more poignant tale-Sir Simon De Canterville, the ghost, wants very much to die and be at peace. Mr. Otis has no doubt in his mind that there is no such thing as ghosts. In fact, he is so sure of his belief that he even mocks Lord Canterville's assertion that spirits exist, but he was wrong because every day, some new mysterious events happened in that house. The ghost also enjoys to scare people. One thing we can learn from the story "The Canterville Ghost" has the theme of life and death to examine the issue of forgiveness and from this, the love is stronger than both.

The Humour in The Canterville Ghost is that it eliminates some of the dark and scary atmosphere (like ghosts have some feelings and reason to scare us) and Oscar Wilde explores several stereotypes in the story. Otis, as an outspoken republican who rejects European ascendancy and believes in the power of the American dollar, represents another stereotype.
