A trait that describes Walter is abandoned. “You couldn’t be on my side that long for nothing, could you. … A man needs for a woman to back him up…” Page 32
Walter needs Ruth to back him up with the liquor store idea. Instead Ruth doesn't back him up she just down plays it like it isn't serious. Walter probably feels she should take it into more consideration and actually help him and his friends to start this business and they would not have to live in poverty anymore. Ruth just usually tells Walter the reality of most things and it's not what he wants to hear so he feels abandoned by her.

A trait that describes Walter is overwhelmed. “Mama, a job? I open and close car doors all day long. I drive a man around in his limousine and I say, ‘Yes, sir; no, sir; very good, sir; shall I take the Drive, sir?’ Mama, that ain’t no kind of job… that ain’t nothing at all.” P. 73 Walter is very overwhelmed really with life and not having money. He is tired of asking people for money all the time. Walter doesn't like the fact that he can't provide for his family and it's all because he does not have money. He feels there nothing he can really do about it because no one believes in his dreams except for him.

My personal opinion on Walter is that he is a very straight forward man. I feel where Walter coming with about the money but I don't think the liquor store. Walter sometimes can be too blatant with his family and he comes off as disrespectful too much instead of trying to compromise with them and help the situation. I think Walter is a good person but has to sit back and think about the things that mean more in life.

This painting relates to Walter because he yells a lot and gets angry when he is not heard about something. This also relates because Walter struggles a lot and is tired of it because he feels like there is nothing he can do about it. He feels less of a man because he can not provide for his family the right way. Walter is just tired of living life this way and he takes his anger out by yelling at other people for sometimes no reason.

This song relates to Walter because he is a struggling man. Walter knows what he wants to do with his life but does not realize his ideas are not going to work. He just starts to realize the importance of family instead of so caught up with money. Walter needs to get his life together and not worry about so many things that are not important so he does not have to look and feel like he always struggling.

A theme for A Raisin in the Sun is that "poverty can create rifts in a family". Mama: “Son, how come you talk so much ‘bout money?” Walter: “Because, it is life, Mama!” Mama: “Oh—so now its life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom use to be life—now its money. I guess the world really do change…” Walter: “No—it was always money, Mama. We just didn’t know about it.” p. 74 This quote relates to the theme because mama did not realize how much of a problem money became for Walter. Walter valued money higher than family and freedom and for that money was the cause for a lot of the things going on with Walter. Beneatha would be able to go to school, Walter would be able to get his liquor store, and Mama would be able to get the house.
