In the 1970's people would not be jumped as much by the richer people, when people in The Outsiders were being jumped many times and getting scars and cuts because of it.

Hinton uses/alters history in her book by using information that is true but also uses information which is not true. Hinton talks about the Greasers and Socs and those are labels they get because one group is rich and the other is group is poor. While in reality we never gave people those kinds of names.
