It's amazing to me how I'm like 'this makes sense actually'. I think all the airports I have been to have people of color working as janitors, coffee shop attendants etc. But when something like covid happens, no one needs airports meaning that these people are the most affected which is unfortunate because with the money they make, they probably live with little savings. This means that there aint no generational wealth being created here. I think it might take a bit of time and a definitely a lot of change to see people of color holding those good and secure jobs that won't be replaced by some pandemic or tech advances.

Still, it seems like there might not be as much effort to change these statistics by different companies, despite having DEI initiatives, which raises many questions for me.

to answer the question about opportunities to drive racialized economic progress, I think as people of color in tech, we should be motivated to be creators. it's not easy but if there is an opportunity to create employment for yourself by means of a start-up anytime in your career, try it out. it might be harder to influence big companies to take diversity seriously but if you start your own thing, it might be easier to build something with people you share the same vision of racial equity with.
