The explicit teaching of thinking skills  develops of deeper understanding of the capability that PYP teachers are able to utilize assessment to inform learning and teaching. It does so as it fosters a culture of thinking that is reflective in its nature.

Solo Taxonomy is a tool that supports teachers by enabling students to demonstrate their understanding in a visual and non-threatening way. It can be used to quickly check for progression and also to encourage students to reflect on their learning.
Solo can also be used to support planning from surface  understanding to a deeper conceptual level by using the associated vocabulary to develop learning outcomes
