She always communicated belief in my academic abilities, and didn't let me be mediocre. In addition to academics, she helped me to become a leader in Junior Civitan, and pushed me to always be my best.

She always seemed fearless to me--challenging us to really think outside of accepted norms and ideas. Thinking back I do remember a lot of lectures but she did so by storytelling and making the lectures hilarious-- kind of like history in a soap-opera drama version, except also with a really critical sense. . . she showed she cared

He made the lesson fun and created lessons that were active. He was a very cool laid back teacher who wasn't scared to joke with the kids. But at the same time he still had the respect of the class and we knew he was the leader in the class. He sparked my interest in becoming a teacher

My favorite teachers were the ones who I developed relationships with through class, as well as about things not necessarily pertaining to class. They were the teachers who I admired and who I, as one of the few (if not at some points the only) queer students, felt comfortable and safe being around and talking to. They were friendly and relatable, they were strict and drew boundaries and held students to high standards both academically and interpersonally. They were open to developing stronger relationships, and they let those things they learned about students in that way help push them in the classroom. Otherwise, these teachers often taught content or transmitted content in ways that were engaging.

She was super knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, and took the time to get to know every one of her students, even though it was a big class. When I decided to go back to school for my PhD, she was willing to talk with me on the phone and give me advice about the process, and even wrote me a letter of recommendation. She is the reason I am pursuing my PhD!

My favorite teacher is my grandmother, Berita Grey. She was not only my first teacher / principal but was only my guardian as my mother was in America establishing our future life. My grandmother taught in Jamaica for 50 years. Her tenacity and patience has always inspired me to love every student, unwaveringly. Her care for students inside the school house, as well as, outside the school setting pushes me to always check/support the WHOLE life of the student, family, and their village.
