Personal: On March 31st, 1994, I was born in Fontana, CA to two loving and wonderful parents. My father was 28 years old, and my mother was 27. I was born a healthy baby and weighted 9 pounds, 6 oz.

Biological Expectations: Healthy weight, using APGAR assessment and passing all trials.

Psychological Expectations: Instant attachment to caregivers, developing trust according to Erikson's Theory.

Societal Systems: Many women utilize a hospital setting during their birth, however many other cultures and families use at-home births with Midwives.

Personal: I said my very first word at 4 months, I said "Dada". I was typically able to respond to words spoken from my parents by using actions such as facial expressions postures, and gestures.

Biological Expectations: "One of the first words that children understand is their own name, usually by about 7 months...and they respond to verbal requests to do tthings like wave or blow a kiss. (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p. 92).

Psychological Expectations: Children learn languages by modifying what they hear around them and utilize imitation for understanding (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p. 95).

Societal Systems: "At birth, babies recognize their mother's voice and can discriminate between the languages spoken by their mothers and foreign languages..." (Lally & Valnetine-French, 2019, p. 91). In all cultures, babies will respond to their mother's voice.

Personal: I was able to take my first steps and begin development of gross motor skills by exploring the world around me.

Biological Expectations: Gross motor skills begin to develop first, such as reaching for objects, crawling, and walking.

Psychological Expectations: "Erikson believed that toddlers should be allowed to explore their environment as freely as safety allows and in so doing will develop a sense of independence that will later grow to self-esteem, initiative, and overall confidence" (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p. 106).

Societal Systems: Children begin to also acquire pride through their accomplishments. However these emotions vary from culture to culture. Some cultures teach us to feel pride in personal accomplishments, while others are taught to not call attention to themselves (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p. 99).

Personal: When I turned five, I began to learn how to read and write full sentences. I was also musically inclined to the piano and began reading music. I enjoyed learning and going to school.

Biological Expectations: At age five, children now have better coordination and ability to form fine motor skills such as tracing and drawing.

Psychological Expectations: Construction of self-efficacy and the ability to perform a certain skill. Children are also actively playing and getting together with friends and socializing.

Societal Systems: Disciplinary content in schools are generally universal, however many cultures define "learning" differently. For example, many activities may be cooperative rather than competitive in certain countries. (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p.186)

Personal: I was potty-trained at 20 months and knew when to uses the restroom. I grew out of diapers and pampers and was able to use a small potty. I also utilized my imagination during playtime, and began using the world around me.

Biological Expectations: "Toilet training typically occurs during the first two years of early childhood" (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p.119)

Psychological Expectations: The Initiative versus Guilt stage allows children to think of ideas and take action. They begin to learn self-esteem and self-concept while gaining perceptions of themselves.

Societal Systems: Gender socialization may affect the self-concept of a toddler. These cultures can begin affecting who they are and what they are perceived as.

Personal: My high school graduation was one of my biggest milestones for me personally. I was on 

Biological Expectations: Older adolescents are still developing biologically, particularly in the brain.

Psychological Expectations: Erikson defined early adulthood as an age of identity exploration. Many late teens are beginning adulthood and are considering their career choices.

Societal Systems: Most European countries encourage young adults to attend college. This is due to the fact that "Governments pay for tertiary education, assist young people in finding jobs, and provide generous unemployment benefits for those who cannot find work" (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p.248).

Personal: I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology. I was able to graduate in four years and continued my education through University of La Verne. My goals were to become a Physical Therapist.

Biological Expectations: Physical maturation is complete, aging process begins during early adulthood.

Psychological Expectations: College is certainly a substantial investment each year, with the financial burden falling on students and their families in the U.S.

Societal Systems: The rate of college attainment has grown slowly in the US than in the number of other nations (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p. 266).

Personal: At age 25, I was able to marry the love of my life. After years of getting to know each other and trust each other, we fell in love and decided to live the rest of our lives together.

Psychological Expectations: During early adulthood, Erikson believed that people focus primarily on establishing intimate relationships. Once identity is established, intimate relationships can be pursued.

Societal Systems: According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, emerging adulthood various among different countries. The median ages for entering marriage and parenthood in most European countries is 30.

Personal: I was unable to continue my education through Physical Therapy, but I decided to completely change my career and enter law enforcement. Through rigorous mental training, I became a police dispatcher to help the public with any criminal or medical emergencies. I was able to learn problem solving skills and be confident in my career choice.

Biological Expectations: By the time people reach early adulthood, their physical maturation is complete, and are at the peak of their physiological development. However many women have children in these years. 

Psychological Expectations:  "...emerging adults narrow their choices further and begin to weigh more objectively the requirements, rewards, and downsides to careers, along with comparing possible careers with their own interests, values, and future goals (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p.268).

Societal Systems: In the United States, "Men tend to outnumber women in professions such as law enforcement, the military, and politics while women tend to outnumber men in care-related occupations such as childcare, healthcare, and social work. These occupational roles are examples of stereotypical American male and female behavior...derived from our culture's traditions.

Personal: I hope through my emerging and middle adulthood that I can finish my graduate program, have children, and raise them while pursuing my career. 

Biological Expectations: Women are most fertile in their early 20s. Women experience more birth complications as they grow older. in addition, "biological factors, such as molecular and cellular changes, and oxidative damage are called primary aging.

Psychological Expectations: The generativity vs stagnation stage encompasses procreativity, productivity, and creativity. The stage that establishes a family and career is considered the longest stage (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019, p.344).

Societal Systems: Attitudes about aging varies by race and culture. In the U.S., aging is considered a generally negative topic as everyone tends to look and act "youthful".

Personal: My ideal death would be to pass in my own home surrounded by loved ones at an appropriate old age (approx. 85-90 years old).

Biological Expectations: The three most common diseases are heart disease, stroke, and COPD. Many people die in acute care hospitals, secondly in nursing homes, and last at hoe.

Psychological Expectations: Grief and mourning are experienced differently among people. Many of these reactions are impacted by the relationship of the individual, culture, and personality.

Societal Systems: Different cultures handle death and dying differently. In the Hispanic culture, death is celebrated and considered sacred.
