Hello, Honors Students, My name is Brandon Khuu, and I am honored to be running as a candidate for the position of Honors Club President. As someone who has been involved in honors club since last fall, I’ve had the privilege of learning so much about the benefits and opportunities at honors club and the honors program. I really do believe in the importance of having a community of like-minded students within the honors program that can support one another When I first joined this club, I was drawn in by supportive community and the opportunities for personal and academic growth that the club offered. I have attended events hosted by Honors Club, like the Stanford Field Trip, the Alumni Panel, and scholarship workshops, which have been a lot of fun, and I hope to be able to organize more events like those next year if I am elected as President. What I believe makes me a worthy candidate for president is my dedication and passion for the clubs mission. Throughout my tenure as a member, I’ve consistently demonstrated my commitment through active participation at meetings, volunteering, and contributing ideas for improvement. Furthermore, my leadership experience both within and outside of our club has equipped me with the skills necessary to effectively lead our community. Whether it’s by leading my high school track team or facilitating group projects, I have a proven track record of brining people together to achieve common goals. I ask for your vote for me because I really do see the value that Honors Club offers and I am committed to this clubs continued success.

President - Yuting Duan

I am Yuting Duan. I am majoring in Computer Science and a first-year college student. I’m running for president of the Honors Club. I am interested in running for this position because I want to support the Honors Club and Honors Transfer Program by encouraging students to take advantage of the research, helping students to prepare for the 4-year university, and bringing more resources for members. I am a member of the Honors Club. Since the schedule conflicts, I only take limited time for regular meetings at the beginning of this semester. However, I only have 13 units next semester, so I will have enough time to engage in the Honors Club. My previous role equipped me with the necessary skills as a president for the club. First, I am the Project Manager at DSC this semester. I also served as the President of the Photo Club for this academic year. I organized many workshops to attract new members and collaborated with other organizations like the Honors Club and ASSC. We took photos for the Honors Club at the end of last year. These experiences have made me adept at conducting club meetings, managing official paperwork for funding requests, reimbursements and field trips. I am really familiar with all the club business at Skyline College, so I can support and guide other club officers to deal with them. After that, I am the student assistant to help organize the Earth Fest this semester. I got to know how to formally connect organizations outside of SMCCD and how to execute marketing strategies like effectively tabling in the club rush and college hours. I am a qualified candidate. First, I can make sure the meetings I conduct are productive and inclusive since I gained experience from my previous roles. Second, I have the ability to lead symposium workshops. I finished my research project in my first academic year and did a slide presentation in the SOAR at Skyline College and a poster presentation at the Data Science Discovery Symposium at UC Berkeley. I can lead symposium workshops and help my peers to effectively present in the symposium. Last but not least, I am good at teamwork and communication. Thank you for considering me as the candidate for the president of the Honors Club.

Hello, I am Ken Reyes. I am a first-generation Filipino American and college student who is aiming to be part of the Honors Club Upper Executive Officers as the Vice President of Advocacy. I'm a second-year student here at Skyline College currently majoring in Psychology. I am interested in running for the position because I want to dedicate my skills and knowledge to the Honors Club, which is a club that has helped me grow so much as a student. I have been part of the Honors Club for two semesters now, and during that time, I have participated and volunteered in multiple workshops and events hosted by Honors. I am qualified to be a Vice President of Advocacy as I will offer my communication, planning, and problem-solving skills. I also have knowledge of what the Honors Club hopes to accomplish, which is to create a strong community and to encourage students to push for greater heights.

Hey there, people! I’m Chevy, a first-year student at Skyline College, coming from the city of Hong Kong. Yep, I’m just a pretty chill dude trying to navigate college life and have a good time while doing it. So, why am I interested in running for Vice President of Advocacy? Well, let me tell you, I think I’m cable of making conversations effective. Because hey, I know people that do honor aim for those top-tier universities and we all don’t have time to waste? Right? We need someone who can cut through the nonsense and get things done, and I believe I'm just the person for the job. Now, about my current role in the Honors Club... Honestly, I didn’t even know the Honors Club existed until this semester. I know I don’t have a crazy resume but I know about TAP and TAG very well so I can help with that. (Hopefully)! As for other activities, well, I don’t have anything going on at the moment, but I would love to get more involved. What makes me a qualified candidate? Well, let me tell you about my experience as the president of the Computer Club in my high school. I managed to get a bunch of computer science students to actually go outside and touch grass – if I can pull that off, there’s nothing I can’t do, right? So, if you think you want to vote for someone that is pretty nice at doing this job, I’m him. Thanks for listening.

Hello members of the Honors Club, my name is Laurence Garcia and I am running for Vice President of Finance and Records. I am interested in running for this position because I want to have a dedicated role in the honors club. Currently, I am solely just a member of the honors club and I want to become more than that and do things for the club. Like manage the budget of the club, be organized, be a great role player on a team, and of course…be responsible! Other activities/roles I am involved in at Skyline are Commissioner of Activities for the Business, Entrepreneurship, and Finance Club (or BEFC), and that's it actually…I hope to get involved more on campus and at Skyline in general and I really get out of my comfort zone. What I believe makes me a qualified candidate for this position are my organizational skills, (show shoe area), my insane math skills, and my beaming face of joy! On a real note, I feel that my dedication towards the honors club and the honors program are the prime qualities that show my qualifications for this position. I love meeting new people at Skyline and especially at this club and I am very glad that I have the opportunity to become more in this club. Anyways, please vote for me for Vice President of Finance & Records.

Hello, I’m Maya Boysen, I’m currently the Commissioner of Activities for the Honors Club. I’m a mechanical engineering major and am hoping to transfer to UCSD in the future. Now that my introduction is out of the way, I’m running for Vice President of Finance and Records because I care about the future of this club. It’s a necessary tool for the success of the students that go here. In order to further their success, as an executive I will work to maintain its orderliness while increasing funding to provide our members with more opportunities and connections to improve their chances of transferring to their dream schools. I will also work with my fellow executives to find more opportunities and activities for the club to collaborate on. As a junior executive I’ve attended meetings and helped to oversee activities in my current position, giving me a good understanding of the club’s workings and the expectations for the funding and work put into organizing them. I spend a lot of time on campus, making me fully available and connected with the culture of the school. To conclude, I will help increase funding to the club and work with my fellow executives and members to find fulfilling opportunities, and dispense club-related information.
