Codes & Conventions - Film Poste

Film Title - The title is featured to advertise the film. In this case 'World War Z' is the largest text on the page, which will help to establish a brand identity.

Actors names - If the audience is familiar with acclaimed actors their names are often featured. In this case 'Brad Pitt' is a recognised hollywood draw, starring in succesful films such as 'Fight Club' & 'Troy'.

Image - a large central image sometimes of the main actor (just as this poster does) or other aspects of the film such as props or (occasionally) sets.

Release Date - when the films cinematic release date is, usually in small but bold font 'June 21', as this is during Summer it implies that this film is a summer blockbuster an example of a more alternative film released in 2013 was 'Her', this was released in December as it was not a major picture.

Genre - all posters will establish genre to interest fans of that specific genre, as this film is a thriller, the helicopters, gun and bold red and white logo portray it as action packed and exciting. A comedy poster may feature famous comedic actors such as Will Ferrell in a more light-hearted surrounding.

Critical opinions - although not present here, usually acclaimed films feature respected publications opinions of the film. The reason this poster does not is because it's target market is more general, rather than just film fans.

Tagline - again, something which is not present in this poster, usually a catchy small line under the title e.g. "In Space no-one can hear you scream".

Colour Scheme - this poster does not have a colour scheme that is hugely strong, however the white text against the black and blue background does stand out. Colour schemes are used to make the poster eye-catching.

Information - including the film company logo, cast and crew information, there is usually small text at the bottom of the page.
