Censorship plays a major role in Fahrenheit 451. Censorship is shown through the burning of books because reading has become illegal. Those who are different are forced to go to therapy, in hopes of brainwashing them to be like the rest. In the novel, the people seem happy but in reality they're all sad inside

A fireman is a big symbol of censorship because whether they know it or not, they are the ones enforcing the law not allowing people to read books. The role of firemen are different from our society today. They start fires to burn houses that people were hiding books in instead of putting fires out. The firemen are censoring people from knowledge and stories.

The people in Fahrenheit 451's society watches an enormous amount of television on wall sized t.v. screens. They can not think independently for themselves. In the quote above, Faber explains watching television is one of the things people do, so they don't have time to think. Television brainwashes the people.
