I would write a report on the book, The Wright Brothers: How They Invented the Airplane. The purpose of reading this book would be to learn about a historic event and how to write newspaper articles. With this project, students will be able to present the facts they learned to a greater audience. By completing this assignment, students will also learn how to peer edit and review other students' articles. Finally, students will learn how to publish a piece, including pictures from the text.

Many middle school students invest in The Series of Unfortunate Events books written by Lemony Snicket. Count Olaf is a villain notorious for his pathetic disguises and desire for the Baudelaire fortune. This specific activity encourages readers to elaborate on their visual interpretation of the character in addition to the description attributed in the book! Students will be able to follow the character's transformations and display text based evidence. Students can make passport applications for each book read as to show a plethora of disguises. Lastly, students can share their visualizations with peers which displays comprehension.
