a) Identify the main rhetorical appeal used in the advertisement.

Ans: In the advertisement, the main rhetorical appeal was pathos

b) Discuss how the rhetorical appeal is used in the advertisement. What words did the advertisement used to achieve the effect? What was the tone of the narrator’s voice?

Answer: Pathos is used in the advertisement as in the advertisement, the father of the girl is trying to make his daughter to trust him, saying that his luck has turned around, and that she should pass him her savings, to return her money that he has taken. In the ad, this can be related to gambling addicts as after a win or two, they'll say that their luck has changed, when in fact it has not. This is them trying to personalise the issue to victims . In the end, it also says that the real victims are not the addict, but in fact the family members. This is because the family is the one going through the torture, and the addict is only bringing more harm by gambling. Because once he used all of the family's money, he might borrow money illegally, which may cause harm to the family in the end.

It then further explains the gases that we did not knew that was in our house and how their product is able to purify the air to keep family members safe. The advertisement uses facts and data to show the gases and dust that are present in our house. Due to the fact that the product is trying to purify the air, the facts and evidence given by the author makes sense. The tone of the author sounds very professional which suggests the audience to trust the author.
