Michelangelo was born in a small village of Caprese, where his father was the governor, on March 6, 1745. Michelangelo's mom died when he was only 6 years old. At 13 years old, he was apprenticed to Domenico Ghirlandaio. After a year of working with Domenico, he was offered an unprecedented opportunity to live with the ruler of Florence. Since it was such a good offer, he accepted and moved in there. He was taken care of by a retired sculptor while he lived there.
