Most sources state that the main reason for all that devastation were the strong winds. While August began with Greece’s most severe heatwave in decades, it inevitably turned into one of the most destructive fire seasons as it forced thousands of people to leave behind their homes and flee to the beaches. There were several suspicions of arson but nothing was concluded from them.

 Scientists confirm that sadly there is little doubt that climate change will increasingly drive those extreme weather phenomena to contribute to even more potential fire seasons.
