I am a contributor to the online "Kaleidoscope" cultural preservation museum project. I will preserve Nicaragua’s minority culture through a padlet, which enables me to organize all different cultural items in a single web page. Nicaragua was located in Central America, was colonized by the first conquest of Spaniards led by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba, who successfully occupied the country. This is the era where most cultures and traditions were founded and established, and these cultures will be the main focus of my project. Since Nicaragua has more than 500 years of history, many cultures have been developed and extinct; my goal is to preserve both active and endangered culture Nicaragua is now facing, for example, language, festivals, architecture, and religion. I will show how some of these cultures are exceptionally significant to society.

1. Nahuat, is a dialect of the Nahuatl language, belonging to the Uto-Aztecan language family. Nahuat became one of the main native languages during the 16th century. This language was mostly spoken by hybrid form of Nahuat-Spanish in Nicaragua up until the 19th century. Extinct in the early 1900s.

2. The Mangue language, also known as Chorotega, consisted of several dialects spoken in western Nicaragua by Chorotega natives. Mangue is a language closely related to the Chiapanec language spoken in Mexico. The language disappears during the early 1900s due to the vanish of Chorotega natives.

3. The Subtiaba language was an Oto-Manguean language that was spoken on the Pacific slope of Nicaragua by the indigenous Subtiaba people. In 1925, Edward Sapir wrote an article based on scant evidence arguing for the inclusion of Subtiaba in his hypothesized Hokan languages group. Others have linked Subtiaba to the Jicaque and Tol languages of Honduras, but it is generally accepted that Subtiaba is an Oto-Manguean language that shares a close affinity with the Tlapanec language of Mexico. At the time Sapir wrote about Subtiaba in 1925, it was already an extremely endangered language.

4. The Matagalpa language was a Misumalpan language spoken by the indigenous Matagalpa people. In 1981, the population of the Matagalpa people was estimated at 18,000–20,000. Most of them already speak Spanish during that time. Matagalpa became extinct in the 19th century; Only a few short word lists remain. It was closely related to the Cacaopera language.

The majority of Nicaragua's art can be found as traditional handicrafts. While the country has had a strong leaning to poetry over the years, it has little developed the fine arts and graphics side of human expression, choosing instead to continue to create decorative pieces with a practical value. Today, many of these attractive handicrafts can be found in the form of leather work, ceramics and woven garments. Also, both handicrafts or paintings Nicaragua likes to focus on the landscape.

There are many examples of the strong cultural expression in Nicaragua, and an important one is found in the creative, traditional Nicaraguan costumes. Most of these dresses originated at different regions in the country at some time in the past (a few are more recent), where they were used during celebrative dances.

Some of these dances are still performed nowadays whereas others have disappeared from their original site of origin. Fortunately, however, most of these dances have been rescued from complete disappearance by artists who continued to perform these dances in the folkloric festivities.

These traditional costumes were created throughout the country and they are a valuable illustration of regional traditions that helped shape Nicaragua’s festive and colorful side.

The name of this popular dish comes from the Spanish word vaho, which means mist or steam, and to prepare it chunks of beef, green plantains, mature plantains, yuca (cassava), onions, and peppers are slowly steamed together in a huge cooking pot that is sealed at the top with layers of banana leaves to keep in all the amazing flavours. After spending four to eight hours on a low heat, the ingredients are cooked to perfection and are served on a banana leaf with a topping of vinegary cabbage slaw. Typically eaten at the weekend, baho is said to be an excellent cure for a hangover.
