Another interesting discussion today about the five dimensions of multiculturalism. Especially interesting, how we always get back to what's going on in Europe at the moment. The topic has hardly ever been as relevant as today.

People want other people to assimilate into their culture and completely drop their own roots. However, when they live abroad, it is found to be great to raise the child bilingual and teach it about it's home culture.

Why are Westerners called Westerners, even if they live north of my country? Interesting questions coming up in the interview with Dr. Banks.

Multicultural education -an intresting discussion what it means and what the teachers' role is. We have thow several perspectives when we teach something. We should help our pupils to be critical thinkers and readers. To be able to realise these we should be transformed at first. Children can feel if someone is not honest, if we teachers tell sg which we do not believe in. There is a key word which we always mention : open-minded , be open-minded and you will find the world around you.

Today's session made me realise that we will have to keep in mind what Andreotti pointed out so well: the fixed ideas of "like/unlike, us/ them, same / different, ..." within all cultures lead to a distance between cultures and finally to a loss of individuality.
We have to be aware of the fact that identities are constantly changing and not from "one certain way to another" - there are as many different facets as many colours exists and we have to see them within different people, cultures, social systems etc. And that is what we have to teach our students by teaching them to be open minded as well as critical!

I got very motivated to go home and continue the discussion we had in class today. What is culture? Who defines it? How do we see ourselves – and why? My class is ready
to be challenged in these questions and when I come back, I will use the history of Guadeloupe and the discussion we had today to discuss current affairs in Denmark and culture in general. I am looking forward to that.

Today we were on a black beach. The sand was dark and hot and the waves really high. We had a wonderful lunch in a local restaurant. It was chicken. Then we went to see a waterfall and bathed in a hot spring. Our theme was culture. Culture is a interesting theme, it brings out many kinds of discussions, values and things. I was impressed by Rita's idea that culture is always about something we don't have in common. Yes, that's true. What about the similarities? Don't they bring people more together and make them stick together better?
I'm relly disappointed that my ipad doesn't work here on twinspace. I always have to borrow somebody's computer and I can't put any pictures :
