However he keeps this information to himself. Once Lucy begins to feel better he almost prides himself on the "cures" he has found. However its kinda unclear where he got this information.

    At the end of the day, he is still a vampire. He has years & years of gaining knowledge and strength. The combined intelligence of Jonathan, Mina, Van Helsing, Jack, Morris, and Arthur would still not even come close to that of Dracula.

So why didnt he use this ability when awakening? Some may argue that he didnt have the time to react or maybe that the sun was out limiting his powers. But I would like to argue that Dracula maybe saw an out. He knew that they would never stop hunting him down until he was dead so to avoid his death, he faked it by using his other power of vanishing.
