         <title>Importance of Self-Care </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Self-care is an essential practice for counselors and everyone. Life can bring so much stress, and we try to "fix" it before caring for ourselves. Our jobs, family, and personal lives take so much of our time and thoughts that we tend to ignore or put our feelings and needs to the side. One needs to put one's needs first to help others. Counselors need to practice self-care and do something to benefit their well-being to help their clients. I like to think of the flight attendants and what they say before a flight departs. In an emergency, put the oxygen mask on yourself first, then help your child. If you do not help yourself first, how can you help your child out? It is important to take care of yourself to perform to the best of your ability. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Take Away</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Burnout is the feeling of being physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted. People who experience burnout feel as if they have failed in their job. They do not feel excited or enthusiastic to perform the job. They do not feel supported or rewarded. These people feel as if their work goes unseen. These people feel as if they try but do not reach a goal. I did not know compassion fatigue was a term. I learned that compassion fatigue is when a counselor has compassion for their clients and accumulates stress. All these feelings emerge and can cause someone to develop PTSD. Another terminology that I did not know was secondhand depression. This is a result of a counselor working with clients who have had depression for a while. Counseling different clients with different issues can have a huge impact on a counselor's well-being. Counselors are resilient and do not show emotion in front of their clients, but they may break down behind closed doors. As a school counselor, I may encounter these situations. I need to remember to be strong for my students and take care of my well-being so I can help my students at school.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Things to do to practice self-care include exercising daily. When I personally exercise, I feel good after a workout. I feel happy, and I think that I have accomplished something. Eating a healthy meal also helps with energy. When one eats healthy, they have more energy, versus when one eats unhealthy, they feel fatigued. And sleep is an essential need for the body. Getting the right amount of sleep helps your body recharge from a stressful day. Practicing meditation and relaxation can help clear your mind to know what to do. It enables you to think clearly so you do not react in the wrong way. Your body needs time to relax as well as your mind so it can recharge and perform better. </p>]]></description>
