Our group decided to write our paper over auto tune. In today's music industry auto tune is used in pretty much every song that comes on the radio. Auto-tune is a device that alters pitch and vocal performances. It is supposed to be mainly used for fixing up and fine-tuning weird or just off pitches in an artist’s song. Auto-tune is very helpful because singers used to have to sing their songs over and over again, so they can achieve flawlessness resulting in an underdeveloped emotional content that got lost in these repeated trials. The whole paper was mostly pros and cons about why auto tune is important or not. We think it is a useful tool for singers and musicians to use, but sometimes it is used to much. My part in this paper was to write over overproduction and digital perfection in music. Overproduction is the excess use of audio effects, layering, pitch perfection and digital manipulation. Overall I found the subject of auto tune to be pretty interesting, which made it pretty easy to write about.

Perfection is a tricky thing. We need ideals, standards, visions to aspire to. But what happens when the real becomes the ideal? Is anything lost when a work of art doesn't merely strive for perfection but actually embodies it?
-Damon Linker

It's impossible to pin down the melody, harmony, rhythm, and lyrics of the perfect pop song. But a performance is different, since it can be judged on technical criteria alone. A vocal performance, for example, can be perfect in the sense of flawless. Nothing flat, nothing sharp. Perfect phrasing, perfect tone.
-Damon Linker
