         <description><![CDATA[<div>England is known for having a great many of famous people who make an integral part of a great history.</div><ol><li><strong>William Shakespeare</strong><br>The name of the English national poet William Shakespeare is known all over the world. During his life he wrote <strong>38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems</strong>. He is considered to be one of the greatest writers in the world literature. Shakespeare’s authorship question however still puzzles the greatest minds.</li><li><strong>Sir Isaac Newton</strong> <br>This man is very often referred to as the greatest and the most influential scientist who ever lived on this planet. Sir Isaac Newton <strong>was theologian, alchemist, natural philosopher, astronomer, mathematician </strong>and <strong>physicist</strong>. He formulated the theory about the nature of life, the theory of universal gravitation and invented different calculus. </li><li><strong>Sir Winston Churchill</strong><br>Sir Winston is one of the greatest wartime leaders,<strong> an officer in the British Army, an artist, a writer, a historian, an orator, a noted statesman </strong>and<strong> a British Conservative politician</strong>. He served twice as a Prime Minister in 1940-1945 and in 1951-1955. He is the only Prime Minister in Britain who received the Nobel Prize in Literature. </li><li><strong>Queen Victoria</strong> <br>Queen Victoria has reigned the country for 63 years and 7 months which makes it the longest reign in the British history. This period came down to the history as the Victorian era. It is marked by expansion of the British Empire. This period is characterized by the military, scientific, political, cultural and industrial change in the United Kingdom.</li><li><strong>Diana, Princess of Wales</strong><br>Diana has always been the most iconic celebrity from the moment of her marriage to the Prince of Wales till her death in the car accident. She is known for her charity work as well as for being the president of the Great Ormond Street Hospital. </li><li><strong>Margaret Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher</strong> <br>Margaret Thatcher was the United Kingdom's first woman prime minister. She got her nickname “Iron Lady” for a reason. She is the longest-serving British prime minister of the 20th century. </li><li><strong>JK Rowling</strong><br>JK Rowling  is <strong>the author of the Harry Potter fantasy series</strong>. She's sold over 400 million copies of her Harry Potter books. She encourages children from different corners of the world to be creative, to feel inspired and to read books. She is ranked 48 in the list of the most powerful celebrities in the world by Forbes magazine. </li><li><strong>Sir Paul McCartney</strong> <br>Sir Paul McCartney is an <strong>English musician</strong>, <strong>composer</strong>, <strong>songwriter</strong> and <strong>singer</strong> of the legendary rock band of the 1960s – <strong>the Beatles</strong>. This year he turned 70. He is considered to be one of the wealthiest people in the United Kingdom. In the year 2010 his fortune was estimated in £475 million. </li><li><strong>John Lennon</strong> <br>John Lennon was a <strong>musician</strong> and <strong>composer</strong>, a founding member of the Beatles. In 2008, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him the fifth greatest singer of all times. Together with Paul McCartney they formed one of the greatest songwriting partnerships.</li><li><strong>David Beckham</strong> <br>Beckham is a leading <strong>English footballer</strong> and a former star of the legendary Manchester United. Nowadays he plays for Los Angeles, Galaxy. He was the first British football player to play 100 Champions League matches.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>London Eye<br></strong><br></div><div>It is the world’s biggest ferris wheel. On the top of the London Eye you can see things about 25 miles away. More than 3 and a half million people every year go on the London Eye and it can carry 800 passengers at a time on a 30-minute ride. <br><br></div><div><strong>Stonehenge <br></strong><br></div><div>It is located in Wiltshire, UK.   Stonehenge is the most famous prehistoric monument in Britain. It is a circle of stones. People began building Stonehenge about 5,000 years ago. One legend says that the stones were placed there by the Devil. Another legend says that Merlin the Magician created the huge stone circle.<br><br></div><div>The reason Stonehenge was built remain a mystery. Ideas suggested include: a burial site for important people, a temple to the sun or place for ceremonies.<br><br></div><div><strong>The Angel of the North <br></strong><br></div><div>The Angel of the North is the biggest sculpture standing 20 meters tall.  It was completed in 1998 and is situated in Gateshead in the north of England. It is said to represent the transition from an industrial age to an information age, as well as symbolizing people’s dreams.<br><br></div><div><strong>Big Ben<br></strong><br></div><div>Big Ben is the name of the huge bell, but most people use it to refer to the clock and the tower as well. It is the world’s largest chiming clock with four faces. It is located at the top of the 320-foot-high The Elizabeth Tower, on the north side of the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London.<br><br></div><div><strong>St Paul's Cathedral <br></strong><br></div><div>It is located in London. The dome of St Paul's Cathedral is the second biggest dome in the world, after St Peter's in Rome and one of the largest churches in the world.<br><br></div><div><strong>Tower of London<br></strong><br></div><div>The Tower of London was originally built by William the Conqueror in 1066. It is better known as a prison. In the centre of the Tower of London is the famous White Tower. It is the oldest part of the fortress. The Tower, or Bloody Tower, has been host to many famous executions. Today the Tower of London houses the Crown Jewels and is open to the public as a museum. <br><br></div>]]></description>

Sharlock Holmes and his friend Dr. Watson shared rooms here. Their landlady was Mrs. Hudson. Here you step back a hundred years in time. The Sherlock Holmes' Museum is unlike other museum. You can sit in Holmes' armchair by the fireplace. Twice a year, in January and July, Harrods has a sale. It has been the family home for British kings and queens for almost 1000 years. It is an official residence of Her Majesty The Queen. The Queen spends most of her weekends at Windsor and takes up official residence for a month over Easter. Windsore is still very much a working royal palace.          <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div>The United Kingdom, also called the U.K., consists of a group of islands off the northwest coast of Europe. It is a unique country made up of four nations: England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. England, Wales, and Scotland also make up Great Britain.</div><div> </div><div>Much of the north and west of the U.K. is covered in high ground, knife-edged mountain ridges separated by deep valleys. This terrain was shaped in the last Ice Age, when thick glaciers covered the land.</div><div> </div><div>In the south of England, the countryside is mostly rolling hills.<br>In northwest England and the Scottish Highlands are dozens of lakes, called lochs. These were left behind when the Ice Age glaciers melted. They tend to be long and narrow, and some are very deep. Legends say that a giant monster called Nessie lives in Loch Ness in Scotland.</div>]]></description>
