7-1 The Color of My Words Ch. 7: Who is Responsible? by Jaclyn Netis

In part 1 of chapter 7 in "The Color of My Words", we learn about the arguments regarding Ana Rosa's village. The villagers argue that they are the owners of the land; the government and representatives argue that they own the land. We are going to explore both sides of the argument. Then, you will decide whose side you are on based on the arguments presented in the book.

In part 2 of chapter 7 in The Color of My Words, the villagers rally together to try and keep their land. In all of the action we witness the tragic loss (death) of Guario. But who is to blame for this tragedy? We are going to explore who is to blame and who is innocent. For each guilty party (person), there is an innocent party (person). You must argue who is guilty and why, AND you must argue who is not guilty and why. As you work on this Padlet, continue to revisit the question: Who is responsible for Guario's death and why? Remember, you must also argue who is NOT responsible and why.

On this Padlet, you are choosing one person/group that you think is responsible to help prepare for your writing tomorrow.

These are a select few passages you can choose from. For tomorrow's writing, you can choose any quote from the novel that best supports your response.

Guario is responsible for his own death because he did not moved when the fat guarida told him, he did not told the guarida that his sister was on the tree, he was radey to fight, and he already had the plans of how he was going to do things to kick out the goverment(fat guarida) out of thier island.
On this passage in page 108 and page 124.It states¨"We could spread the word throughout the Island of what the government wants to do to us. And maybe we can convince enough people that if we don't all stand up for this, then no one's property will be safe on the Island."
Mami was shaking her head. "If they find out you are behind this, Guario …""Mami," he said, "we are all behind it." it shows us that Guario had a mammoth plan of how we was going to do things and in the text it states¨The fat guardia in the red cap was pushing his gun at Guario, trying to get him to move away from the tree, but Guario wouldn't budge¨. That shows us that Guario did not did what the garida told him, and he could have said wait for my sister to get down instead of not moving and staying there.
[Ana Rosa] IS responsible for Guario's death because she did not said notting so the guarida could wait for her to get down instead of being ther watching how the guarida killed her brother.
In the passage on page 124-125, it states, "Guario, run," I wanted to shout. But the words couldn't come out. Nothing came out and I just sat there gripping my branch. Then I heard a sound inside my head and I saw Guario's body jerk back. "No!" I shouted. "No!" But even those words didn't come out. They were trapped inside of me where all my fear lives. And as Guario fell at the bottom of my gri gri tree, he looked up and my handsome, brave brother smiled at me¨. That shows me that the only thing Ana Rosa did was being in her tree. She could have said something so the guarida could fathom that she was up in the tree and the Guario was there because of her, to wait for her to leave from the tree.

Guario is responsible for his own death because he set up the plan and made himself leader, since the Villagers had looked up at him as a leader due to his ego going up a bit. In the passage, on page 98 it states, "Guario, you talk to this loco man and tell him we don't want to sell," said Papi. This tells us that even Guario's own father looked up at him as his leader for this war too. Ana Rosa is not responsible for his death because she was just a 13 year old girl that was scared, and just wanted to be with her brother on her birthday. In the passage on page 124, it states, "My eyes swung from one fight to another, from one scream to another, from one gunshot to another. But always, always my eyes rushed back to Guario. This tells that Ana Rosa is terrified and just wants her brother to be safe during the war he, himself had started.
