As you can see here, the roof of the traditional house in Negeri Sembilan has a little upward curve on both ends, like the shape of a boat. This is because, when they sail for trade and fishing, the boat is like a home to them. Hence, the Minangkabau inspired the architectural aspects of their traditional house with their maritime culture and way of life.

The Ibans were Borneo Island's first inhabitants. They are primarily found in Sarawak, Sabah, and west Malaysia in Malaysia. The Ibans were a greatly feared tribe in Borneo long ago as they used to be a very powerful and successful warring tribe. Now, the days of headhunting and robbery are long gone as the Ibans have lived in the modern era of globalisation and technology.

The Iban's house is known as the longhouse, in which the villagers will live under one roof. This Iban longhouse was 500m long and had 29 rooms. Each room was basically assigned to one family. A typical longhouse has 20 to 25 doors but sometimes it can have up to 60 doors. Surprisingly, Sarawak has around 1,500 longhouses, most of which are located along major rivers and their tributaries.

Normally, an Iban village would only have one longhouse, which is built in a straight line with a rectangular shape and is made of sturdy hardwood posts, and beam structures. Traditional longhouses are made primarily from natural materials such as timber, bamboo, palm tree, palm leaves, and rattan. Usually, bamboo is used to build wood barks and palm thatch roofs. The concept resembles the terrace row houses, with each living being divided by walls and sharing a common street.
