UDL is a type of learning that accommodates for ALL students. I think as future educators this is something we should want to pursue in our future classrooms. UDL shows that we can teach students that all have different learning strategies.

The three principles for engagement are Recruiting Interest, Sustaining Effort and Persistence, and Self Regulation. The goal of all these principles, checkpoints, and engagement itself is to expect who are purposeful and motivated. In my opinion I think overall engagement is meant for learners to stay motivated and have the will of wanting to learn. I think as a future educator it is important to follow some of the checkpoints such as minimize threats and distractions, Increase mastery- feedback, and even having students develop self-assessment and reflections. Overall I believe engagement is something both teachers and students can enhance for each other. We want students to stay engaged and be successful in what they are learning.

Representation is the "What" of learning. This is when learners differ in the way that they perceive and comprehend information that is presented to them. In my own words I believe that representation is how us teachers can use different strategies to all different students whether they have disabilities or not. All students are different and learn different, which is why the way students perceive information is important when learning.

The three principles for representation are Perception, Language and Symbols, and comprehension. The goal for these learners are to have students that are resourceful and knowledgable. It is important as a teacher to offer different ways to learn the same thing because ALL students learn differently. Some checkpoints that stood out to me that I would consider to use in my future classroom to include representation is offer alternatives for both visual and auditory information, clarify vocabulary and symbols, and activate or supply background information. There are tons of other ways to include representation into teachers teaching styles. The main goal for teachers os to find different strategies and practices for specific students. Not all students are the same when it comes to learning.

Action and Expression is the "How" of learning. Learners differ in the ways that they navigate a learning environment and express what they know. I think that all students should be comfortable enough to express how they learn even if you are different from other students. When students learn they should be able to share out their thoughts and ideas when learning.

The three principles for Action and Expression are Physical Action, Expression and Communication, and Executive Functions. The goal for learners when using these principles is to have expert learners who are strategic and goal-directed. I believe that action and expression are so students with and without disabilities can express what and how they are learning. I believe students are learning to communicate with their peers and teachers on how and what they learn best. Some checkpoints that stood out to me in this category is optimize access to tools and assistive technologies, use multiple media for communication, and guide appropriate goal-setting. As a teacher you want to help your students to be successful when learning how to do certain things like communicating and goal setting.
