While children gain interpersonal knowledge from making connections with their teachers and peers, their first peers are their parents. For children, parents act as their first model of personal relationships and motor skills, and they copy their parent's behavior using their limited knowledge. Children often may use language that they have heard from their parents, even if they don't understand what the phrase means. Teachers should question where children are learning behavior, and openly communicate with parents about how things are going with the child at home.

The statement "Parents are a child's first teacher" means that we learn a lot from our parents before even learning anything from a teacher. For example, we learn languages at home. We also learn manners from our parents. Teachers/schools should communicate with families by sending emails. Having conferences with parents to discuss progress. They should tell them the good with the bad and perhaps discuss ways to reinforce the curriculum at home.

"Parents are a child's first teacher"

I agree with this statement because children are known to copy the behaviors that they see and hear the most, and I think that it is fair to say that parents are their first teachers because of the fact that they spend so much time with them. It is the interactions that children have with their parents that help children develop.

This is why it is so important for teachers and parents to communicate, reaching out to the parents and letting them know how their child is doing in a different environment is so important and can be done in many ways. Many schools have apps for both teachers and parents to use to contact each other and it is important to use it almost daily. Parents should get updates on what their child is focusing on in school so that they can also teach their students at home.
