Quentin becomes a mentor for Homer Jr. and Quentin adds to his body of knowledge by showing him a lot of stuff about rockets.
Homers father was originally his opposing force, but after church the pastor altered the story so it gave more support to the BCWA. After this his father helps him by showing him a place where he could test his rockets.

When two people have a relationship (either romantic or non-romantic), it is useful for both people to have similar dreams or aspirations or for both people to understand one another's goals and aspirations. For example, Mrs. Riley and Sonny's mother both encourage Sonny's dream to build rockets. This is helpful because they share the same vision for his future as he does. Counter to this, his father is encouraging him in the wrong way, which is not helpful because Homer Sr. wants Homer Jr. to be a coal man instead of a rocket boy.

Overall, if an adult or mentor is encouraging you to pursue dreams, it is useful for their vision of your future to be similar to yours.

Having a hero can be good, because they can inspire you. and guide your actions. However, there are also several negative aspects. For one thing, it's not necessarily a good idea to rely on a hero to be a good role model in every aspect. As an example, Sonny idolizes Dr. von Braun, but von Braun is a Nazi, so he is clearly a bad role model - although Sonny sees him as a good role model for rocketry.
Another negative of blindly following a hero is that sometimes they turn out to be bad people if you have any sort of interaction with them, which can shatter your faith in them. Thirdly and lastly, if a hero is someone you know personally, this can affect you negatively because they can have a larger amount of control over your life.

Sonny's become very tunnel-visioned on creating rockets due to his relationship with Dr. Wehrner, and this could be very harmful to Sonny in the foreseeable future. Another problem with this could be the inability to meet them if they are from a position of power or high standing, which would make it difficult for average people to see them or interact with them.

Not all romantic relationships are equal, because some can be one-sided or have more or less argumentative relationships. One example of this is Sonny's relationships with both Dorothy and Valentine originally. Both were one-sided, but in different ways, because in the former Sonny liked Dorothy but she did not seem to like him, and in the latter Valentine liked Sonny but not the other way around. As an example of a relationship where the people involved don't always get along, we can see Homer and Elsie. They often get in arguments, especially about Sonny, where other couples may not.

For Homer it was his place for freedom and enjoyment, but that all changed when Dorothy showed up with Jim.

In October Sky many places determined his relationship with people, for example his school determines who his friends are. He meets dorothy there and Ms. Riley. Going to school usually determines who you know and who you’re going to like and not like. He became friends with quentin even though he wasn’t too sure he liked him. His school gave him a way to view people.
