Some boys do not accept girls in motion games.
Then I'm doing mixed teams. I usually care not to praise or encourage girls more than boys, not to protect them too much. Boys are allowed to express their emotions, and girls can lead the team, if necessary.
It is interesting, although women suffer from gender discrimination, they usually perpetuate gender stereotypes. Therefore, both mothers and teaching ladies need to be aware of their own prejudices.

Today I am a high school teacher who seeks to fight the stereotype that women can not be engineers. Even today among colleagues there are many prejudices: "What can a woman understand about machines, or design?" Day by day a woman in the engineering field needs to show how much it is worth. As the protagonist of the video I had some personal satisfaction. I am engineer I have two qualifications and I won two public competitions to become a professor. I was the first of my graduation contest ... before many men who are considered genes. I am glad to be an engineer because I have the opportunity to deal with different fields ... I wish that today's girls do not become discouraged by these steriotypes but who undertake the scientific study because it is fascinating .. we can develop our creative spirit .. so many men do not have.

Just this week! In my 5th grade class, the students were working on a group project. One team had three boys and 1 girl. Two of the boys were actively excluding the girl from participating (it is a math and design project). I was quite unhappy about this. I went and sat with the group and observed them. I discovered that the girl had many ideas, but they were contrary to the the boys', so they wouldn't let her speak. In the end I had to intervene, and ask them to reflect on what was happening. The girl spoke about how she felt, and I gave her space to share her ideas. It turned out that the boys were on the wrong track completely, and the girl was the only one who had carefully read the instructions. I let that lesson sink in without comment....and they began to actively include her after that.

I even remember some teacher talked about girls as we lower the level of school education. Now thing are much better but still few of my female students choose tecnical studies! As a teacher I have observed that girls are sometime less
self-confident than boys regarding science subjects even if the atmosphere of the classroom is ok and everyone is involve. Another topic is the choice of the degree. Female student will choose, mainly, health and life science sudies rather than hard sciences like Physics or Engineering.

I am a mother of four... two boys, two girls... As obvious my two boys play soccer, influenced by their father, who is a major fan of AEK FC... When one of my daughter was very young she always played with her brothers at home... but she longed to belong to an official soccer team... the FC in our neighbourhood didn't accept girls! She was very sad. So we searched around and finally found a FC for girls. She is training and participating at soccer matches and now she even started training polo, where the majority of the players are boys! She is very happy! I always narrate this example to my students at school, when the boys underestimate girls... and because my daughter is at the same school with me, they meet her and play with her and I am very proud, when they say, she is a very good soccer player!
