Summary:
In this passage, Syme and Winston are eating their lunch and talking about Syme's recent work on Newspeak. Syme reveals to Winston that he is currently working on the eleventh edition dictionary for the language, which is the "definitive edition." He also tells him that instead of adding words to the language they are destroying words. That way there is less of a chance for someone to commit a thought crime. Syme explains to Winston that there is no need for words that are just the opposite of each other and that there will be specific words that they are creating that everyone can use such as "doubleplusgood" and even "ungood". Syme seems fascinated about how "thought" will change when this edition is finished. At the end of this conversation, Winston seems to think that Syme will eventually be vaporized by the party just because of how intelligent he is.

In this passage, Winston's Diary talks about his little crime and some his thoughts. He met a old prostitute in a basement kitchen and he had sex with her. Winston's wife Katharine left him after they failed to produce the children. She forced Winston have to sex with her once a week because she thinks its their duty to the party. Winston also talked about party's attitude to sex, they only allow married people to have sex, and only sex for purpose----produce children. Winston felt sick with party's attitude about sex. After Katharine left Winston, the old prostitute is the only way Winston to have sex.

From the passage, it reveals about party only want people to have sex for their political purpose, they are trying to cut down people's human natural about sex and make people toward a factory to produce children for the party. Desire is also a thoughtcrime.

Winston felt sick to party's policy, he wants more freedom to have sex.

This passage discusses the party as being something huge, terrible, and glittering. Winston describes the cities as being dingy and decaying. The towns smelled very awful, according to him. Winston recollects the story of Jones, Rutherford, and Aaronson. They had to publicly confess to their crimes of colluding with Goldstein against the Party. In the end of this eventually all of these men ended up lying.
This reveals that the party gives mercy to those who have committed ruthless crimes.
Winston looks up to these thee men when he meet them all at the cafe.

This reveals that the party's ultimate goal is for no one to be capable of conceptualizing anything that might question the Party's absolute power. The purpose of Newspeak is not only to be a medium for the ideas and worldview of INGSOC. It is also meant to make all other ways of thinking impossible and thus removing all heretical thoughts. This ultimately gives the Party total control over society. The newspeak engineer, Syme, also goes on to state “ In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible because there will be no words in which to express it.” This quote proves how vital control of language is to the party, it is the key to becoming a controlled state.

Winston possibly feels hopeless in this situation. Winston questions why the party wants to do this and then proceeds to think about the people that will get vaporized due to this "new edition." By doing this already, he is kind of thinking that he is finished.
