The article discusses the fears of an imminent recession happening in our economy and how that even though those fears have eased, there are still many other things to be observant and possibly concerned about. It discusses the era of persistently low growth, low inflation and low interest rates isn't over. There are problems that are plaguing the world economy and ours as well. Some of those things are an aging work force in big economies, weak growth in productivity, excessive global savings and industrial capacity, and a shortage of worldwide demand. Those are the reasons why even though are economy has low unemployment, American workers' wages have been rising slowly. Low growth rates meant he economy could slip into a recession more easily. Raising interest rates from the Federal Reserve were the reasons why the stock market took a minor plunge in the final couple months of 2018. The fed chairman's predecessor said that recent interest spike was most likely the last one of this cycle. Interest rates are slightly below zero in the European Union. The discussion of inflation rates and their expected growth over the next decade are the reasons prices in futures markets reflected expectations that the Fed would enact no more interest rate increases in 2019. That caused the economy to improve and not causes investors to go into a frenzy. This article was interesting to me because I like listening and reading about the stock market and the economy and how certain things said or done can tip the balance in any direction. It was interesting reading about how the stock market took a major plunge in October 2018 because of the chairman of the Fed saying the central bank is a long way from neutral interest rates, and that the largest tech companies all lost major percentages in their stocks. The entire stock market lost over 2 trillion dollars in just October alone and it was very interesting to read about that. It will be very interesting to read about interest rates and inflation in upcoming chapters.

The article discusses the stock market and how the month on January made a great comeback from the worst December since 1931. The month of January saw great percentage increases for the DOW, S&P 500, and NASDAQ. All three had increases of over 7 percent. This increase for the market is the best percentage increase since 1987. In the stock markets almanac, they discuss "as January goes, so goes the year." At the end of the 2018 year, there were many talks of a possible recession because of the stock market percentages going down. With little relief in the markets, those talks have almost all have disappeared. Multiple powerful CEO's have dismissed a full blown downturn. "The confusion in the environment right now is, is it a slowdown or is it going into a recession?" The fact that unemployment is at a 50 year low and the most recent jobs report added over 304,000 jobs to the economy, there is consumer spending. Finally, the federal reserve skipped a rate hike and signaled that policymakers would be "patient" with future rate hikes. I found this article interesting because like I said in my previous article last week, I like to follow the stock market and know what is happening in our economy and other economies across the world. Reading about how well the month of January did gave me more confidence in the economy and investors. I know one month will not perfectly dictate how the rest of the year will do, but I hope this uphill continues. It will be interesting to see if any of the things we discuss in chapter 2 is closely related to any of this.

This article is about the housing market and what home buyers should be looking for now that the housing market is in a tradition period into Spring. With the dip in interest rates and a combination of modest gains in housing prices, have helped turn parts of the real estate market into a buyers market. Mortgage rates have come down a lot in the last year. Many homes buyers could not afford to buy homes in the last year. Reports are saying that inventory is increasing at a rate that is too high for new house owners and millennials. An area where buyers and sellers could see savings are in real estate agent commissions fees. They discuss where and how technology can improve and make that technology more efficient and lower cost is the goal for new home buyers. If you combine high taxes and high interest rates and hit prices. I thought this article was interesting because it talks about the rising interest rates and the housing market. I think this can be very interesting for me because very soon I will have graduated college and will have to own my house or apartment on my own. I hope to learn more about the housing market and what I can do to understand it better so I can get the best price for a house or apartment in the future.

This article is written by billionaire investor and entrepreneur and Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary. It talks about how there are a few things millennial's can do to save a lot of money and later invest it for themselves. The average American aged 25-36 years old is in debt $42,000 and it is not from student debt; it is from credit card spending. There are three basic things you can save a lot of money on Kevin says: shoes, coffee, and jeans/pants. The average American spends $1,100 a year on coffee when they can be spending only 18 cents a day for a cup if it was made at home. For shoes, Kevin says only 4 pairs are needed: one pair of flip flops, one workout pair, and two dress shoes. 75 percent of women have over 20 pairs and the average man has 12 pairs. Finally, the average person should only have 3 pairs of jeans: one black, white, and original pair. The average person spends $161 per month on clothing. By listening to these saving rules, the average person can save 10 percent of their annual salaries. Kevin says to invest that 10 percent and the market gives you seven percent a year. If you make $58,000 a year and invest 10 percent a year, that will leave you with $1.25 million when you are 65. I picked this article because I watch the show shark tank and sometimes read information form the sharks about investing smart and how to be smarter with your money. I think it is very interesting when I read about how many hundreds and even thousands of dollars a year someone can save by just not buying too many of unnecessary products. I will take this information to heart and really think before I spend my money. I am interested to see if this information about invested more of your money and just leaving it in the banks overtime will come up in later chapters in Macro.

At the end of this week, technology companies and health care companies carried the stock market and S&P 500 to its fourth straight weekly gain. The positive economy and stock market is mainly due to trade talks between the U.S. and China are going well. Its the fact that investors are hopeful and (betting) that an agreement will be reached between the two countries and that will lead to both economies and stock markets doing very well. The Trump administration said that if a deal is not reached by March 2nd, the U.S. will increase its import taxes on $200 billion in Chinese goods from 10 to 25 percent. If talks are going well though, that deadline can and most likely will be pushed back until a deal is reached. Wall Street has been very happy with the possibility of an agreement being reached by the two countries. That helped raise the market and the fact that better fourth quarter earnings for companies were reported and that the Federal Reserve's decision to take a pause on interest rate hikes. This article was chosen because it talked about the positive nature of the stock market and the trade talks with China which are extremely important right now. If these negotiations do not go well, both of our economies and stock markets will be affected immensely in a negative way. This is also a factor of the monthly job reports and how 304,000 jobs were added in January but the unemployment rate was reported to have gone up a little bit to 4.0 percent. On March 8th, the jobs report for February will be released. It will be interesting to see how that affects the market.

This article goes into details about the jobs report for February and why it was down so much from January. The jobs report had only 20,000 jobs added. This is down from the 304,000 jobs that were added in January. It is very common that jobs and the economy goes down in February and during the first quarter of the year. Economists are saying that just because a slow jobs report happened does not mean that a recession is coming anytime soon. The cautious talks about the China and U.S. trade-war possibility is also a reason for the stock market taking a dip this past week. We will wait to see what happens with the trade talks. This article was very interesting because it talked about the unemployment and the real unemployment this past month. We just learned about what the real unemployment consists of. The real unemployment dropped from 8.1 to 7.9 and the regular unemployment dropped to 3.8

This article talks about the newly updated power ball drawing and how it is at a grand total of $550 million. This article talks about the taxes that are taken away from the total. No matter what, a 24 percent tax is taken from the grand prize by the IRS and then depending on your state, the state tax can add another large amount. The largest amount the IRS can take out of the grand prize is a total of 37 percent. The total that can be taken out is a whooping 45 percent after all taxes. It can depend also if you take the lump sum or annual amount over three decades. I choose this article because my family plays the powerball only when it hits over $500 million because we know it is pretty much a waste of $2. This article talking about taxes and how the rich and poor can be taxed differently. I am interested to see if we learn about how the rich and poor are taxed differently.

This article is about the bad month Boeing has been having. The companies stock has fallen over 18 percent since the March 13 crash in Ethiopia. Since the crash, every 737 Max plane in the world has been grounded until a new software update to counter the problem that brought down the two planes in the past five months can be fixed and taught to pilots. The company has had other issues during March including late deliveries to NASA and the government. The company has lost over $40 billion worth of market value. That is huge for a company that posted sales of over $100 billion last year. Boeing will need a couple of good months to regain the faith of many in the public and government. The fact that an Indonesian airline canceled an order of 50 Boeing 737 Max planes worth over $5 billion, is a hit to Boeing, but as long as its big buyers like Southwest and Ryanair do not cancel their orders, they should be able to bounce back from this big hit.

The article is about recent flooded that took place in the Midwest last week. The damage in a few states totaled over three billion dollars. States such as Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Almost all rivers and streams in the state of Nebraska saw record flooded. Many states totaled almost one billion dollars each in damage. Insurance could not cover all of the damage to livestock and crops so many farmers may be put out of business because of all the damage. Also, 54 levies burst and will not be able to be repaired for a little while, so all farm lands around or near that area will not be able to be farmed for crops until the areas are patched up. Mostly soybeans and corn were affected by the flooding. President Trump declared a national emergency for the flooded areas and the Senate debated 13 billion dollars worth of funding for them and Puerto Rico.

The DOW and NASDAQ finished at their highest in the entire year because of U.S. and China trade talks almost wrapping up in a success. Also a jobs report that ended up being higher than expected caused the stock market to climb to its highest of the entire year. I chose this article because of the talks about the trade talks. I am very hopeful that the talk end in a great agreement between the two countries. Also, I expect that China will hopefully start acting instead of just saying things. That has been the big difference in this presidency compared to others.
