         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) The mathematical concepts we used were scale, unit rates, complex fractions, ratios, converting between fractions and decimals, and fraction operations. We did a lot of problem solving and interpreting graphs.&nbsp;<br>2) Some of us solved using repeated addition to count the boxes, whereas others used multiplication. Some did groups and chunking. We used proportional relationships between the equations.&nbsp;<br>3) More exposure to tasks like this. We oftentimes give our students smaller questions, but we don't often give tasks that have multiple parts. To help students practice with questions that use the answers from previous questions, we can do more mental math questions that build on each other. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- repeated addition, map reading, proportions, unit rate, ratios, comparing ratios/fractions, conversions, dividing fractions, reading word problems and translating that and understanding what needs to be done as a result of that, etc.<br>- It is important to read the problems closely! Some asked for the distance from the parking lot to the campsite and some people used the entire distance from the parking lot to the pond.<br>- You need to answer number 4 and number 5 right in order to help get number 6 right. <br>- <strong>Some students might be great at error analysis, but some might need to practice this skill. Teach kids to solve their own work first and then look and compare to the error that the other student made. <br>- Teaching students to read the question carefully and decode the word problem is also a very important skill. <br>- Teach math VOCABULARY!</strong><br>- Students all work with different strategies: some might prefer to calculate using decimals, while others prefer to use fractions or repeated addition. It is important to ensure that all students have access to some form of these basic skills so they are prepared to calculate these types of problems.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
