Being an immigrant from a minority background, I wish adults understood the delicate balance of preserving our cultural identity while navigating assimilation in places like NYC. It's a unique struggle to embrace heritage without compromising our authenticity, and adults can play a crucial role in breaking down opportunity barriers by fostering inclusive environments that celebrate diversity.

In my adolescence I wish adults understood that the more they kept pushing me to do or to not do something that they think is right or wrong for me, will only push me further away from wanting to listen to them and seeing why it would benefit me. I understood myself that the adults in my life didn't want to see me fail or mess up like they've seen happen to other kids or even to themselves when they were younger. I think what they sometimes failed to realize is that in those years your going to have to make mistakes so that you can reflect on them and right the wrong. There have been times in my middle or high school career where my teachers and my mom would be in my ear telling me that, I needed to do my assignments and show up to school on time and be in all my classes. This was sometimes rough to do because I didn't want to actually do it until it was time that I needed to like the end of a semester when report cards came out or marking period when progress reports would come out. Eventually my teachers and my mom gave up trying to push me to try in school because they saw that doing that wasn't making me want to do good in school so they told me that if I wanted to really pass, it was up to me to apply myself. I eventually passed and graduated with my class because the thought of being in middle or high school for another year was my motivation to get my work done and get out. I feel like sometimes adults want to prevent adolescents from making these types of mistakes but for the adolescent, because they probably have yet to experience it themselves and most likely wants to given the chance, they're going to experience it and whatever happens, happens but the adults can do but so much because it's really up to the adolescent to think about what they're about to do or doing and consider on doing what's right in a morally correct or logical way. - Zaria Donely
