Joseph Romano is pleased to present on Planboard during our DLL Moonshot Day. With free access for all, Planboard is a web and iPad app that enables Teachers to organize their instructional content online, simplifying lesson planning and scheduling.
During this session, participants will learn how to create, edit and share their lessons plans in one seamless experience. Plans can be personalized for particular classes or courses using the integrated planner. Best of all, Ontario curriculum expectations are all built into Planboard for integration with lessons. You can embed images, Google Docs/Presentations/Spreadsheets/Forms or videos and attach documents into your lessons.

As a Volunteer Educational Technology Advisor at MaRS Discovery District, I was introduced to Planboard during its early stages of development. During this time, I piloted and reviewed the web-based platform from the perspective of a Teacher and continue to use the planning resource as a part of my day-to-day practice. As a resource which is in constant beta, I recommend that all Teachers try Planboard not only because it is free, but because of its developing and robust feature set.

Learn more and sign-up for free at:
https://www.planboardapp.com

2. What was the purpose or goal? What were you hoping to do or achieve? & 3. What did you do specifically with staff or students?

My purpose/goal in using Planboard was 2-fold. First as a Teacher, I strived to use a new and innovative resource to amplify my planning process (shifting from paper-based static Day Plans to a "live" and interactive Teaching and Learning Web 2.0 resource). In essence, I was shifting my workflow to mimic how I work in other spaces - using technology to support the process. With this, the integration of attachments, embedding and including Curriculum Expectations, my Day Plans have become not only more useful, but also more meaningful.

Second, Planboard allows me to plan using live content that my Students are able to interact with. By including these pieces within my Day Plans, I am able to share my lessons with Students by embedding Planboard on AW. Students are then able to access any links, videos, attachments and the like directly from AW - this means that I do not have to post content twice (once on Planboard and once on AW), allowing for more flexibility regarding what and when I share with Students.

Implementing the use of Planboard to shift my planing process has impacted not only my Professional Practice (and work with Students), but also the way I approach thinking about and designing meaningful lessons - through the use of rich content integration. This has allowed me to learn that the planning process ultimately lends itself to and impacts my final lessons, and Student Learning.

Furthermore, I have strived to share Planboard with Teachers as a resource that others may find impactful to their practice, during workshops, one-on-one sessions and through a Tutorial Video Series on YouTube.

Learn more and watch my Tutorial Video Series on YouTube at:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMLgntOyeT85YNo6aHbAgrHNeZTfYncP_
