Jacob Riss- 1890 wrote a book called “how the other half lives” about the new york slums making New york politicians pass legislation to improve tenement conditions 

WIC:  provides nutrients assistance to women children and infants 

SNAP: allowed people to buy food and groceries in time of need

FAFSA: provides educational financial aid

Settlement houses-offered opportunities such as english classes,child care, and work training to the poor and immigrants 

Programs provide education finances food shelter 

Many programs are protesting for improvements to be prioritized at the white house
